Most of you will have a dozen or more jobs in your lifetime. Some job changes will also mean a different career. Switching jobs is hard enough, career changes can require years of training and acclimating just to be at the same level you were previously.
Formal education and training is an excellent way to prepare for a career, but like all things there are strengths and weaknesses. For example, in this class you've learned the theory of digital marketing but very little of what its like to work as a digital marketer.
This real world knowledge can be acquired in two ways: experience and learning from the experience of others. As we have over ten years of experience in the field, we'd like to share the lessons we've learned.
A portion of our final class will be dedicated to a Q&A where you can ask us anything related to digital marketing or careers. We can discuss "war stories" like the worst project we ever worked on, how we started our businesses or how to go about getting a great job.
For your last participation assignment, submit a question you'd like us to answer in the comments section. We'll select a handful of questions to get the Q&A started before opening it up to general questions.

There is always a debate between experience versus education. And equal confusion on if they complement each other or if they are independent of one another. I strongly believe no education (knowledge) or experience gained will ever go waste and will come in handy at a point we may never realize. How does experience and learning from others fit in this context and how different is it from experience and learning from self?
I transferred to MSU from Washtenaw Community College where I received my associates degree. Two questions 1. Would you view this as a positive or negative commendation? 2. I worked full-time for a local company in the process quoting, selling, building, and installing docks/boat lifts (avg. 60+ hours/week). Would you consider this work experience (involved a lot of direct communication with customers)? Or would you only classify it as such if it were directly dealing with advertising and digital media?

I am really interest in digital advertising after I had interned for a digital advertising company last summer. MSU has a great advertising program, however, my employer has dicussed with me that she is looking for candidate of the ad operation and she found out most advertising students don't have much knowledage and experiences in digital advertising field but traditional agency side. My question is: what specific area would you recommend advertising students to know in digital advertising if they want to become a professional in this specific field and how would you predict the industry in 5 to 10 years.
Thanks
