I think it is a great idea. This is a generation that is so depedent on mobile devices that having and effectively using this app I think is great. I know it is easier for many people to go on their phones and look something up rather than waiting to find a computer and get internet connection. Google is making this change for exactly that reason. They know people always have their phones on them and are always looking at them, so making this information mobile I think will get many more people interested and many more people to take a look at it. I don't think it will really change my online searches. I would probably look at the same things on my mobile device as I would on my computer.
Hummingbird sounds like a very big stepping stone in the SEO world. It takes in to account many more factors than in previous updates Google has made. It will most definititley speed track users to finding what they are searching for, which is very beneficial to the company. Google took a leap in updates in order to enhance SEO for all parties who benefit from the largest search engine on the market.
I have never heard of hummingbird is this way before reading this post. However, I do believe this is a great idea! Any kind of improvement to technology to make it easier and more beneficial to it's users is a great idea. Seeing as this will improve the search engine overall, I don't see how this will be anthing but a great stepping stone for Google. I think Google is making this change because they are looking to maintain their power in the search engine world as new ones threaten and attempt to takeover.
I have not heard about Hummingbird but after doing a little research it does seem like an interesting and possibly beneficial concept. Hummingbird is going to be an extensive of the mobile searches. This should be a good thing for Google because mobile is so abundant nowadays; almost everyone has a smart phone and they want to be able to look something up as quickly and efficiently on their phones as possible. Consumers are looking for convenience, and that is just what Hummingbird offers.
I haven't heard about Hummungbird up until this point. But after reading about it, I definitely think it is a good idea. Seeing that it is the first "real" replacement of the algorithm in 12 years, it is very likely that Google was able to improve it a great deal on the basis of its past experience. Everybody will benefit from more precise and faster searches, especially smartphone users. In addition, companies will have a better stand for instance in being found by consumers who want to find the products they have, with Google also improving more complex search queries and indexing entities.
I would like to start off this comment by saying that I am not an expert in computer programming. From there I'd like to say that I think Hummingbird is a good idea. Google has obviously done their research and it's telling them that people want to search faster on their phones. By using phones, people are becoming more and more digital. Hummingbird is just a step into the future and Google is right to want to get there. I hope to that this will make searches faster and more efficient for everyone using the server.
Hummingbird is another innovatie idea by Google, just another way Google is ruling the world. I think the coolest feature is that it makes is very difficult for people to trick the SEO. This allows the users, like me to find better results, faster. Better results, but faster is the bottom line and its benefitting us all. It goes back to the point that you need to create really great content, or it will be deleted, similar to Squidoo, it actually kills your page if it feels it is weak. I use Google as my default mobile search engine, which I’m sure 99% of my peers do as well. I noticed how easy it was to get directions today when I Googled how to boil an egg, instead of bringing up a lists of sites, it directly gave me a list of directions which is pretty cool. Updates are always welcome-Go Google, go.
From my understanding the Hummingbird update seems to be a very fair, and necessary, way to change the way Google Search works while keeping a positive consumer experience at the forefront. I use Google Search on my iPhone multiple times a week and, more often than not, it is during a time where I need an instant answer. I think Google’s shift away from “pure search” and towards “predictive intelligence” will accommodate this need for instant and reliable results. We are already in an extremely fast-paced and technology-focused world and with that mobile will continue to grow. It was stated that the future of Google Search is mobile-focused and question oriented, which I think will be much more effective for consumers and I know I will appreciate it the next time I’m in a hurry, on-the-go and need an instant answer.
I think that the implementation of Google's Hummingbird was inevitable in the search engine evolution. This is one step that will make Google’s searches more effective. They have more devices to pull data from than they did ten years ago, so I think the switch to focus more on mobile will be beneficial for the effectiveness of Google search & Google Adwords.
Having better search engine is definitely good news. Not just focusing on keywords and adding meaning to get better information. Also focusing on mobile is good idea because many people use cell phone these days.
I think that Google is one of the most innovative companies in the world, and they have a sure-fire plan for everything that they do. This is no different. We live in a very mobile world, which means that soon phones will be the main source of technology because all applications will be integrated into phones. The fact that Google realized this and made Hummingbird a mobile domain assures me that the world is headed in a mobile direction. When Siri was first launched, it was very hard to use because it did not always bring up the information that I wanted or could not always hear what I was saying which means that I would have to repeat three or four times before it got my search right. Now with an updated technology that focuses more on the meaning of what I am saying rather than the keywords and phrases that I am using, shows how advanced technology is getting. "If you want to understand where Google wants to go, take a look at Google Now, which pulls together data from all over to deliver you information that you didn’t know you needed. That idea, coupled with the always-listening, and always-present Google Glass, should give you a pretty clear idea of how Google wants you to interact with it in the future: constantly, quickly, and transparently" (Things, Not Strings). I believe this will change how I do my online searches because now they will be more efficient, and understand the idea that I want to get across rather than taking the keywords and showing me all other sites that use those keywords.
Hummingbird is a great way for users to get better and faster results. I think people will be much more pleased with the answers they see when they are searching for something and need an answer immediately. Now, users won't have to search through the results to find something that is relevant to their question. Since mobile is becoming very prominent in today's society, it will only continue to grow. Google is jumping on board and getting ahead of the game by creating Hummingbird and making search queries mobile. I believe that this will change how I do my online searches because I already see myself becoming more and more dependent on my mobile devices. It is becoming a bigger part of my daily life, so this will only help make things easier for me.
I think, to quote Ricardo Bilton, that this is just a natural evolution in search, and actually quite a developed step for Google. Searching based on intent instead of keywords will help users find data quicker and easier, but will definitely hinder keyword enthused SEO experts. Google is making this change to create a "smarter" search that will allow users to find data that might not have been easily found. It will help my own online searches in a fantastic way, and will help with finidng queires that I have little to no knowledge of.
I think it is a smart idea for Google. I think they are making the change to be more tech-focused, specifically mobile and also "question-based." Its good for me because I use my phone for most of my Google searches and also my style of searching is the same way that I talk which is wordy so the new "adaptable to questions" is beneficial for me in that sense too.
I think Google Hummingbird update is a great move to the next level due to its system. Many users can use their mobile widely that and its focused only on the mobile users. Google is making technology easier and smoother to target wide demographics. I think it is good news to mobile users and will narrow down my searches.
Hummingbird is a great tool for anyone and everyone. Now that so many people use Smartphones, they need to have more tools to look up information quickly and efficiently. I think Google is making this change to appeal more to people who solely use their mobile devices to search. Innovative and creative!
These articles were really informative. I had no idea what Hummingbird was, let alone that the algorithm hadn't been changed in years. You always think Google is ahead of the game, which they are, but you never think for something so simiple as SEO that they would've had it pretty down pat right at the get-go. Being the leader in the fastest and most accurate search engine is definitely a big check plus to Google. I feel like nowadays we are all using SEO on all platforms of technology, and for some things I feel like my smartphone can't preform at best. Hopefully this upgraded version will make it more compatible for the differnet platforms.
I think the new Hummingbird algorithm is good in that it's adding to Google's recent move toward ease of use. The mobile aspect of it's features are exciting and should make using Google on mobile devices even smoother and easier than it already is. It is also interesting that Google is acknowledging the 'casual, conversational' way with which we search on our mobile devices. All in all, I believe this is a good move for Google.
I think Googles Hummingbird update is a great step in the right direction. Over the last 5 years, everything has moved mobile towards a greater convince. The future is all about convince, and what is more convent than your phone, Google Glass, or smart watches? Nothing! Hummingbird was built around the mobile user, which is awesome for both Google and its users. Personally it won’t change my searching habits, but it should change my clicking habits.
I think it is a great idea because you always want to update your system and make your search more efficent. Keywords sometimes can be very spotty sometimes and this now will enable more accurate data to show up. I had never heard of this before but not that I have I think I will try and use it a lot more in order to cut down on search time and use that time to my advantage. It is crazy to think Google of all companies would have the same algorythm for 12 years. They always say if it aint broke dont fix it, well maybe Google is on to something here.
I had not heard of Hummingbird until this article, but I like what they have done. When I am doing a labor intensive search, I use my laptop. For trivial things like an actor's height, I use my phone. Anything I have ever searched on my phone needs a quick answer so having an updated algorithm that reduces the search time and spam that comes along with it is a fantastic feature. Also, Hummingbird focuses more on conversational searching, so it uses the whole search phrase instead of keywords. This leads to more accurate searches for exactly what a user is looking for. Sometimes keywords can get in the way of what the user actually wants to find.
I have never heard of Hummingbird before reading this article. I think that it is a very good idea. I also search things on my phone when I need a quick question answered while am out and about. Most recently I quickly search a trivia question on my phone when I saw a tweet on Twitter that the first person that responded the correct answer would win a prize. I think that searching on phones is becoming more and more popular so it is important that Google is making the change.
I think that it is great that Google is adding meaning rather than just focusing on keywords. Most people do ask questions and this will hopefully gain better information results from searches and more accurate results than just keywords do. I also agree that the world is turning mobile, that is where most things are don'e now and it is a smart move to focus on that.
I had not heard of Hummingbird before reading the articles mentioned but after I found out what it was it all made sense. I have a google search bar on the home screen of my phone and am always using it to look up any and everything! I think its a great idea that they are focusing on the mobile aspects of online searches because I have my phone by my side way more than I do my laptop. I also noticed how I don't have to type much before what I was going to search pops up in the suggested searches area. Hummingbird definitley makes my online searches that much easier.
I couldnt believe that Google has been using the same algorithm for the past twelve years. I always thought google was up to date on everything but I guess I was wrong. Yes, I think googles release of Hummingbird was a great idea. They had it out for a month before having the official announcement that people were using it. It makes searching on google faster and better. It will change how I do my online searches, I can search more complicated queries and get better results that are detailed to that specific topic.
I think Hummingbird is a great idea by Google. This is where SEO is headed, and Google is definitely leading the pack by creating this evolved way to mobile search. When I go to Google something the majority of the time it is on my phone. I've always felt, however, that my Google search on my phone is not as great as my laptop so I'm thrilled to hear that they have improved it. It is a great idea to not just focus on certain keywords of the search but on the question as a whole. There is nothing worse than Google not providing you with the answer you were looking for. Google made the change to keep up with the evolution of technology and searches. They have always been leaders in the Internet world, and Hummingbird just proves that they still are.
I think that it is a great idea! People are all about getting things in the most quick and efficient way. By Google doing this, it makes life all the more simple. The article didn't really state any of the draw backs, so why would a person not want to use this? If searching on a mobile device is going to let me find the best information, I might start using devices like my tablet to do research.
I have a smartphone, the Iphone and I use my Google app and Siri on a daily bases. Our cell phones are now becoming our computer. As technology is changing, so is everything else around it. With this, it is important to stay up-to-date and work on ways to improve/ make things relevant for people. We live in a fast pace society. In this case, Google improving ways that not only focuses on keywords, but the towards intent and semantics. I think it is great that Google is making sure that its consumers are satisfied and finding ways to make searching easier.
I think the new algorithm Hummingbird is a good idea. Mobile is the way to go these days! I find myself Googling things from my phone just about daily and sometimes wish it could be more convenient which is what Hummingbird seems like it could fix. I know there is currently a Google search iOS application for phones and I'm wondering if Hummingbird works through that. I like the idea that it is a more personal search method and people will be able to ask direct questions rather then search keywords mentioned in the venturebeat.com article. I think Google is making this change because everything available more easily through mobile devices is the future and making Google searching easier is a good step for Google. I'm sure it will change my online searches becasue even though the concept still is very new, I see it growing rapidly.
Hummingbird by Google seems to be a very interesting search algorithm that is being implemebted for the mobile users. I think it will become increasingly effective with the expansion of our mobile age more and more users are staying connected and doing a lot of their online searching through mobile may be it a smart phone, tablet or any other mobile option that will be introduced like smart watches, google glass etc. This focus is specialized enough to be effective with the faster searching options as well as a functionality purpose of limiting the spam and unnecessary search criteria. User intent seems to be a big focus that i think makes it a great resource to mobile users creating a friendly environment for those who are surfing via alternatives to a computer or laptop.
Hummingbird is definitely a benificial new search algorithm. I myself am always typing too much and am too specific in my google searches so this is ideal for someone like me. I also think making google search more mobile friendly is a smart idea. I would say 80% of my google searches are on my iPhone. I hardly use my laptop for anything but class and homework considering I have apps like facebook and twitter right on my phone. I think most people use their phones as computers so google is doing well by making updates based on how the times are now.
I like the idea that it gears towards mobile users more. Googling stuff on my phone can be a hassle sometimes, so optimizing that seems like a good idea. With more and more people leaving their PC's/Macs behind for phones or tablets I can see why they decided to focus on Hummingbird. Also the implementation of question based searches sounds amazing. Takes any struggle out of a Google search. I'm sure it won't be perfect for every question, but it will something new and fresh so I look forward to trying it out.
I think the concept of Hummingbird is ideal. Nowadays, I bring Google up on my phone more than anywhere else. Alongside that factor they have adapted, I am interested to see how their "inferring" technology will work. Often times it is hard to ask Google a question without being taken literally, or the data given to you is only relating to a few keywords in your question, rather than answering the question itself.
I think it is a great idea! It is important to stay up-to-date and relevent in today's age, and by Google changing their search algorithm that is doing just that. Since it is important to stay modern, it makes since that Google would change. The rise in the use of mobile devices, and the way people conduct searches on that, is a great reason for Google to adjust its algorithm to work with that. I can see where SEO experts would be unhappy about the change in regards to not needing keywords but instead wording things with meaning. However, as someone who is not an expert and a Google search user, it is perfect for me. Most users I know are not just typing out keywords to find something, but are instead typing out questions and sentences. Therefore, I think it will make my use of Google much more meaningful, and will be easier to find what it is I am looking for.
I think Hummingbird is a great idea and should revolutionize the way we continue to search. Mobile platforms are becoming exponentially more popular every year because of their constantly increasing power and capabilities. Hummingbird will compliment Google phones perfectly and help continue to grow their ever so large market share in the mobile technology sector. Since it had been a full decade since Google had made a significant change in searches, I believe it was time to upgrade to follow the technology advances of the recent decade. I can definitely see the change affecting me because I am always on my phone Googling all sorts of nonsense. Getting bad search results is always frustrating, so I think that the new Hummingbird will really help people find exactly what they're looking for when searching. Nice job Google!
I think google is trying to advance itself into the future before other search engines, and I think it is a good idea. They want to be able to tend to peoples internet needs and they want to do it fast. I know that sometimes I will type in certain keywords and get things I wasn't looking for. I think this will help narrow my searches and provide me with more relavant results. I think it will also improve SEO and take people to the search results they want to find.
I have not heard of hummingbird before but I think it is a great idea. Businesses should always being trying to improve themselves and be more user friendly and that is what Google is doing. Because Google was criticized for its mobile search results, they found a better way to get improved search results. I think this idea can only lead to good things because people will be happier with their better search results and websites will be able to better connect with people that are looking for what their content is related too. Online searches will change but only for the better to get you what you want and help you avoid unwated sites. Google is just finding a way to make itself even better.

I think it is a useful new search algorithum for people who frequently use SEO. Technology is constanlty changing and updates are always available. I think more advanced technology and search engine help is a good idea since our world is always advancing. Google has a lot of competition so they have to make changes and improve their website and other technologies associated with them so that they do not get forgotten about. I don't think it will change how I do my online searches unless I know more about how it can improve my results.
Google updated its search algorithm to the newest version, I think this is a good idea. It designed to be more precise and provide faster query results. For me, sometimes I use Google to search things but get actually unrelated results, and Hummingbird was created to improve the searching experience on our smartphones, which is very convenient for me. Google was criticized for too many unrelated search results showing up on moblie devices, and that's might be the answer that why Google updated its algorithm. I don't feel anything different now, but since Google has increase its ability to deal with complex search queries which means that it also has got better at indexing entities in web documents, it will provide us with more friendly searching experience.
I think that the Google Hummingbird is a great idea and will provide Google users a higher quality search. Mobile searches and inquiries being the speciality of this new algorithm I think that the way users search has just become easier. Prior to Hummingbird, users were forced to use keywords rather than the question they were actually looking for an answer to. This will change the way users search by making it more convienient to answer a simple inquiry. Google focused on the mobile side of searches because it is becoming more prevelant and the ability of hands free voice control pushes for a more inquiry based search than keyword based. Google Hummingbird may confuse the users who are used to using keywords for searches but they will adapt just as previous users have adapted to other algorithms.
I think this is Google being Google and doing their best to optimize and change the tide of technology. Hummingbird is a huge leap in the mobile world and I feel that it will only benefit Google. Increasing their focus on mobile searching and the mobile world is a promising venture, especially for a company so involved already. I think it will make online searching faster and especially so for college students. Mobile searching on a phone seems to be the norm nowadays, due to the amount of students with a smart phone that can do these searches. Given this, I believe mobile searches will be better utilized for everyone and will only progress after incorporation of Hummingbird, and that is why Google is willing to make this change.
I think this is a great idea for mobile devices. Mobile is the future, so it's essential for Google to make this change before someone else created something similiar to the Hummingbird. I think it's a good idea for Google search to be mobile-focused and question-oriented. If it's user friendly and easy to navigate you can't go wrong. Personally, I always find myself doing random searches on my phone that aren't always keyword specific. Hummingbird, in contrast to some of the other updates that Google did, is pretty harmless. This update just encourages people to have good, descriptive content, and you should be doing just fine. I like how hummingbird is paying more attention to each word in a query ensuring that the whole sentence or conversation and meaning is taken into account. I can recall numerous times where only particular words were taken into account from my search that didn't match what I was looking for.
I think this is a great idea. Personally, I find myself typing many questions into google, much like you would ask Siri on your i-Phone. I think that this will revolutionize the way we conduct searches into Google, making it much easier for everyone, especially students to be more specific in their searches. Sometimes it is hard to get your point across in a search because you are not using the key words that Google expects, I am hoping that key words are not obsolete but rather you get a choice of using a key word search or a hummingbird search. I think that if Google shows that this is an option that it could really intensify their usage, especially before the other sites catch up with their own version of the hummingbird. The saying the first article, Things, not strings: How Google's new Hummingbird algorithm sets the stage for the future of mobile search, uses is spot on, It's about meaning, not just keywords. I am extremely interested to see how this algorithm progresses and look forward to using it in the future.
I think that this new Hummingbird Algorithm is a great change for mobile devices. When you're on the go you need your info as fast as possible. And the voice feature is key because most people are only using that when they are riding or driving a car, so the faster they get the info, the faster they can get back to looking at the road. I believe Google is making this change because as they say in the article, "Mobile is the future", and if Google was getting backlash for too many spammy results showing up on its mobile content, maybe people stop using them on their cellphones/tablets/etc. It will definitely change how you online search. It always use to be, and I always saw it as just entering in keywords, but now searching has a better predictive intelligence and can process natural language. So no need for entering just keywords and hoping to get the results you're looking for.
I think that Hummingbird will be useful in the constantly changing world of technology. Many people, including myself, rely on their smartphones for many tasks. I know that I Google things throughout the day on my phone, and Hummingbird was created to improve those searches and interactions on our smartphones. This new technology is making people's lives even easier and because of that I believe that Hummingbird will be well-accepted and will catch on fast.
Very interesting, I had no idea Google was taking this direction. In the summer of 2012 I went to the Cannes Lions International Fesitval of Creativity in Cannes, France through an MSU study abroad and one of the winners for a Lion thought of an idea very similiar to this. They were trying to answer the question "how to make search easier" and basically thought of an idea similar, take what they can gather from everything you do on the computer and answer the question before you even ask it. Google's suggestion questions that pop up have a similar concept, make things easier for the user. The hummingbird algorithm takes it even a step further, by looking at how users communicate through Google, and how they tend to search things you can post the best answers for their questions. Google has evolved to something more than a search engine, and I think it is interesting to look at the way we use it, especially since they highlighted the fact that most of us use google in a conversational matter- it is no longer a search engine where we are trying to find the best answer for our question, we are giving the question and expecting the best answer.
Before reading this blog, I had never heard of Hummingbird before. I think that this will be a great advance in the direction technology has been going lately. I think it is very good that they are implementing a lot of things around the mobil aspect of technology. Smart phones are such a big component to our world today. People are constantly searching things on their phones throughout the day. I think Google is making this change because they know how important tablet type devices are in the daily lifestyle of people today. I also think that it is a good idea that they are switching from keywords towards intent and semantics. It will be so much more convenient for users if their search is focused on meaning.
I for one think its a great idea. I always have things I need to look up or randomly research because of conversations with friends and family. Having an app at hand that will work with or without wifi makes times like this even more convienvent. I personally can't wait until this is made available for everyone to use.
