Comments & Feedback
The Facebook Fan Pages are very appealing. One thing I found useful on the NMDL Fan Page was that it kept me up-to-date on all the material covered during the class, the entire year. Another thing that I liked was the ability to view other members projects through the slideshow tab on the left side of the page. I found this to be useful to understand how other members are doing thier projects and some creative opportunities to branch from. The NMDL Fan Page served as a one-stop spot for all the things I needed throughout the year.
I checked out the new Facebook site and I think the new media drivers license site looks really nice, organized and personalized. With the new layout, it's hard to make your page look organized when there is so much going on with it. On my Facebook page, I personally don't like the picture bar at the top and my friend's faces along the side. I am one of those people who gets irritated with Facebook changes. I feel as if once I get used to the new change, there is another change the next day. Each time Facebook creates a new layout it seems to get more cluttered and less organized. Props to the instructors for creating an organized NMDL Facebook site!
The new facebook page looks so professional and is very eye-catching. I liked the page a while back and actually received the Facebook invite for the Tweetup that was last week. I prefer Facebook to Twitter so having a functioning and fun looking page will really help me want to come visit the page to see the latest news on the site rather than finding my information solely on the blog/class website. I think it also gives the students an opportunity to find others in the class who they could facebook message or what not if they didn't feel comfortable enough posting their questions on the actual site. I will definately be visiting the site even after I graduate from the class, because I think it's always going to prove to be resourceful.
I love Facebook pages that take advatage of the setup and design custimazation available (to organizations, fan pages, etc.) in a creative an innovative way. One of my favorites is Grahm Smith's page. He's a graphic designer and the design of his facebook page carries the identity already established on his website. I feel like a brand's (or company's) identity can easily get lost on Facebook and this capability is a simple way to counteract that while still being a part of Facebook (still feeling like social media as opposed to a company's regualr website). I think that both NMDL and Ingenex have done a nice job in maintaining their brand image on Facebook. The brand/company is immediately apparent (viewer doesn't have to search to figure out what it is) but the user doesn't loose the "social media" feel either. I also like that a user is able to view each page (NMDL and Ingenex) before deciding whether or not to "like." Facebook is often a quick and easy place to get an overview of a company or brand, and it is often frustrating when being required to "like" a company's page before I even know what they are about.
I actually set up a Facebook fan page this weekend for a little side project I've been working on, and I didn't even realize it was in the "new" facebook fan page until I just read this blog post.....everything seems to make so much more sense now. Although I did really like the userface for the fan pages, and it was really handy to be able to switch from fan page accounts and your own personal account. Being able to edit the content as well as have two separate experiences was pretty cool. The fan page isn't complete yet, but feel free to check out Little Reminders facebook fan page!
I love the new layouts. I think these updates are helping make Facebook a better place for companies to connect to current and prospective customers. I think having one page that updates you with important information but still allows you to communicate with a company without interfere with your 'friend' social network lets Facebook be more versitile. It is important for Facebook to evolve in this way in order to keep competition low. I don't think these small, gradual changes have too much of an affect on me personally so I am not bothered by them. I actually enjoy 'Liking' companies now to get more involved.
I really like the new FB pages because they are so much easier to navigate and so much nicer to look at than before. The physical appearance of the pages will definitely give the added incentive for the audience to come visit the page more than before. One page that I particularly found of is Michigan State University. I love their fan page because they update their information daily and it doesn't intrude on my newsfeed too often where I feel annoyed. I like to keep up-to-date on my school, so its nice to see certain information that I wouldn't have known about otherwise. I like that I am to then communicate directly with MSU, if I have a question or comment, and they can respond back to me within a few hours. I think the best part of a company fan page is the ability for the page to keep itself updated and keep an open conversation going with those who are part of the page.
Personally, it's been a little hard adjusting to the new Facebook pages. For my internship, I am admin of a lot of our clients' pages and when everything switched over it was hard to get used to. I was also in the middle of making a new page for a client and when the new pages came along, it was tough to find where everything was, espeically getting used to having no tabs on top. I found this Mashable article that explained what is important to know if you are managing a client's Facebook page.
Mashable says that the biggest difference is the way everything is layed out. Most of the content is still the same, it's just all rearranged.
It also seems that the new pages are geared to look more like our personal pages. I like this because it allows a little more creativity and personalization. It's going to be a little hard to get used to but like any new Facebook change, give it about a week and I will have forgetten what the old version looked like.
To me, this kind of represents how our generation is going to have to deal with public relations. The industry will be changing monthly because of how fast technology turns over and we have to cope with that. The most important thing is to be able to adapt to changes quickly and also forecast what is coming up next so you are prepared for yourself and your client.
I think I can speak for a lot of people when I say that Facebook is getting pretty irritating with how constantly they are updating it and making it “fancy” and “innovative.” Honestly, my favorite version of Facebook was the original one that was plain and simple, now I feel like every time I get used to the newest version of it, they change it again. Sometimes I think it even makes it slower and has potential for more glitches and errors. Even though we can complain about it as much as possible, I don’t think Facebook is going anywhere soon and I am not deactivating my account over it.
Facebook is constantly changing and at first I feel that it is a hassle because they don't tell you at first that they are making a change so you have to re-learn and adapt to them. However, I think what they did with the new page looks great and is a great way to market yourself as well as your brand. One of my friends on facebook is really creative and really took advantage of the changes and really designed it in an intriguing way to get a lot of comments and likes. My favorite facebook pages are the ones that I am able to relate too or have a shared interest in. I actually found the class social media page before I was even enrolled in the class because I am a marketing major and wanted to learn more about what the class had to offer. I tend to like pages of companies I am interested in or anything that I will be able to further my career in after college. These new pages look great!
Yes! I noticed that the main page of facebook has been changed. I like its design but feel uncomfortable to use it. This is because I used to use old version of facebook and it is so familiar to use it. When the design is suddenly changed, it makes me to take time to use facebook, even though it's made for my page!! However, it is cool and neat. I think it appeal to business people more than old design. I wonder how long is it going to take to adapt new version of facebook, though.
As we all have noticed throughout the past few years, Facebook is constantly changing and has become easier to use every time. Although many users moan and groan when they see that Facebook has developed something new, everyone eventually gets used to it after a while. So far, the biggest change I've see is the photo viewing screen. Although this new feature makes photos appear smaller, I like how you can exit out of the screen quickly and still be on Facbeook. Personally, I feel as if I still need to do more exploring because I don't think I'm aware of half of the new features the site has to offer. Overall, I think it's great that Facebook continues to be updated. It keeps the site fresh, fast and competitive when being compared to other social networking sites.
I really like the new layout for Facebook. i feel that the way it's organized it makes it easier to use and much easier to locate things. I have seen many page changes since I have created my Facebook and some I have like and others I haven't. I will be honest, at first i really wasn't to thrilled with the new look but after a few days I realized that the way it was set up was much easier to move around your own and other peoples pages. I also like how I can find out information about restaurants and other types of places before I go or if I have questions about it
I think the new facebook page layout is great. It makes the business pages look more professional and they are definitely more aesthetically pleasing. It is nice now you can add some personality to it and choose which pictures you want to show at the top. The pictures are the first thing that anyone sees, so have some room to play around to draw in the viewer to check out more.
All these changes to facebook are one of the reasons I deactivated my account in the first place. Instead of making facebook simpler to use, they actually made it harder, first with decreasing the font size. The new UI looks cluttered. There’s too much text and links everywhere. The pictures at the top are so unnecessary. I’m also not a fan of the status being at the top of the page. Some people do not like to scroll down your “wall” to find out what you posted that day. Now, with the new picture viewer feature, the site seems to slow down and the black background is not appealing.
I honestly don’t have a favorite page because I never go to company’s pages unless they have a poll on the side of my home page. I think a lot of company pages update their page enough to show up on my news feed.
I think these new facebook pages layouts are really awesome. When the new facebook came out I was really annoyed with the idea of "new" layout. But now I feel it gives a more professional feel for things such as companyies or class pages like you are showing. With facebook becoming a way to market yourself as a brand I feel the new page allows you to look like a more professional person. My favorite facebook page is Roger Federers but that could just be because I love him :).
The new Facebook page visualizes its content more. Pretty cool. However, I think all the layouts are quite similar. Sometimes I have excitement about new changes, sometimes I can’t keep up with all of it. Honesty, I prefer no change except for useful functions. To me, Facebook is just a tool to connect people and get information. Feel like every time you get used to a format on facebook, it changes.
Honestly, I do not use Facebook to check out companies, but if they do not have a Facebook it seriously deducts points from their legitimacy. I think the new Facebook also helps with ease of access and information for consumers. Companies looking for direct contact through consumers should use Facebook by having people "like" them. To do this, opportunity for winning something or coupons can help get consumers who may have not easily liked the company before.
I love that Mark Zuckerberg has so many ideas for Facebook that he slowly releases newer versions one at a time. At first I am very apprehensive to make the switch over to a new layout but after a week or so I completely forget or care what the old layout was like, as long as the new one is easy to navigate and is beneficial. I like that the pictures show up at the top of the screen but one thing that I have noticed is that you are no longer able to right click someone elses profile picture and save it to your computer. I sense the era of having to pay to view people's pictures slowly approaching.
I was resistant to the change. When it Facebook asked all user to make the change I did not. Facbook change my page for me I am not a fan of the pictures. I also don't like the frienship page it hard to view all sides to a converstation. I also had trouble with the change they first made to the status box I could not find it on the page. Now they have corrected it. I gues like some people I struggle with change.
I mostly like the new Facebook pages. I think the new layout that shows photos on the top of the profile pages is a nicer setup than it was before. I also don't think it's a bad thing when Facebook changes it's setup every now and then, as long as the changes make sense, and make it easier to use.
Wow is right! I didn't actually know these changes happened until I read this post. I have admin rights on several pages and just took the tour of the new features. To me, they make sense. They seem to match the flow of user profiles and I think thats what people expect when they go onto a different Facebook site. It is frustrating when Facebook keeps making all of these changes. I understand that their is a reason for each change but the lack of consistency makes some features difficult to understand. The change in picture viewing most recently is, to me, not a good change. About a year and a half ago I started a fan page for a mentor of mine. She's been a big part of my life and the lives of many others. Her fan base quickly grew to over 100 and she's flattered to know that many people appreciate her.
My favorite company facebook page would have to be coca cola's the company lets their consumers pretty muc create the content of te site. This is a great asset to te Coca Cola brand as they do not need to spend muc time creating content for the page as the consumers do it. Also this consumer content is what the fans and followers of Coke products want. they don't want to here corporate banter tey want to hear from teir peers.
I had no idea that Coca Cola let the consumers have a say on the information of their site. Do you know of any other sites that do the same thing?
It looks like I'm joining the majority when I say that I'm not a fan of the new facebook profile either. The new changes are more frustrating to me than they are beneficial. As others have stated, I'm not a fan of the new photo viewer either. It is a lot like the iPhoto viewer, but to me, it seems like I'm not able to see the picture as good. I also don't like the new "info". Your about me, the part of your profile where you can talk about yourself and have people get to know you, is at the way bottom of the page. I think that should be one of the first things you see when you click on someone's "info". The only new change I am a fan of is the "view friendship page". I think this is really neat in seeing all your old photos with friends, as well as events you attended together, and past and present wall posts to eachother. It's cool to look back on.
I have likes and dislikes about the new Facebook pages. I like the new layout of the homepage because it makes it much easier to find things. However, I don't like the new friendship page because you can only see one side of the conversation not both. If I am looking at friendships I want to see what used to be the wall-to-wall. I also like the new Facebook photos because you can now download the pictures onto your desk top. However, I hate that the background of the pictures is not black and that the pictures appear smaller
I completely agree. I think there are always going to be pros and cons when changing a layout of a website - especially one that so many people enjoy & even rely on to an extent. The new friendship page does seem more confusing & I've also realized that the new picture viewing slides don't work as often as they do work. Recently, I feel that Facebook as a whole is having a lot more problems than usual. I wonder if that's a consequence of the ever-changing layouts.
I like the new pages on facebook. The layout looks cleaner and all the important information is at the top instead of down the side. My favorite facebook fab page is the Michigan State University-Spartans page. This page really utilizes all of the features that facebook has to offer. They post pictures, updates and interact with their fans. I really like when people write on the wall and say " I just got accepted to MSU!" and the page ALWAYS responds with a congratulatory comment. They are great with communication. It is a page we all can learn from.
Facebook needs to slow down. Maybe just take a breather for a few weeks instead of updating or changing the site everyday. Some of the changes are great but some of them are just overkill. The new format that pictures are presented is the best change that I've seen recently. The ability to click on a album of pictures and then close it without leaving the spot on the page is awesome. Now browsing through my friends picture albums is a lot easier and practical. Other than the updated picture browsing, I thought everything on facebook got to the point where it was just right. Not too much, not to little in terms on substance. I honestly feel like if these big changes are continually happen people will fade away from using Facebook as much as it is currently used. People may disagree with me but we'll see what happens over the next year or so with the changes.
As an admin on the Facebook page for my internship and for my student organization, I'm happy about the most recent changes to fan pages. I agree that Facebook seems to be changing every month which can be frustrating. I'm most excited about the feature of being able to view the page you are admin of as yourself, and also as the page. This means now that I can comment on a thread on the MSU PRSSA Facebook page as "Julia" and not just as "MSU PRSSA." I think this will help out a lot of admins as they monitor their pages.
Yes I did notice the changes the facebook, but I sometimes do not agree with their idea of changing things all the time. I think they do it to make sure things stay up to date but I also think that they changes things too much. Once we start to get use to something it changes and I do not like that. Yes it has improved and it looks great but I think they should not upgrade all the time, especially lately because everyone was always fine with it in the first place, but it is still very awesome! I work on the Jackson National Life Facebook page and I think it keeps growing is great but I have notice top companies like Coca Cola and Vanguard have great sites. I think Vanguard does a great job and interacting with their members. I think Facebook pages are growing more and more and the more information that is share makes the company's that much better. I have not built my new Facebook but I have changed some of the account settings on my page. I also have not really liked any of the other pages associated with New Media Driver's License class but I have looked at a few. I think everything keeps on growing!
Honestly, I can't keep up with all of the changes that Facebook makes. I'm actually excited that the changes are on fan pages instead of the regular pages. I think it's great that Facebook is always constantly adapting to the fast paced world of advertising and media. Personally, I would prefer things slow down a little bit because I think that Facebook is the most up-to-date form of social media right now.
Facebook seems to update its site every few months. I understand that all Facebook is trying to do is better their site for its users as a whole, but I feel that they fail to realize how irritated the changes make its users. In some cases, Facebook has made it easier to find people by not only allowing them to search their name, but also to narrow it down they include tabs where you can search what school the person went to or where the person lives. I also think facebook has enhanced the creativity to ones page by allowing you to not only list who your in a relationship with, but your siblings, parents, cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents. These features make facebook more fun and enjoyable. On the other hand, personally, it seems every time I begin getting used to the setup of Facebook, a "new" Facebook layout is created. I don't know why it constantly changes its settings, but I find it rather irritating. I feel a reason for this is to keep the users interested. Although people get aggrivated with all the changes, Facebook knows they can in fact do this regardless of how people feel because clearly this social network has far more positive consequences than negative, which cause people to continue using it.
I personally get really frustrated with all of the changes that facebook makes. It seems like a finally get used to the layout of the site and then it changes. I am bothered by all the changes facebook has done with viewing photo albums. The one change that I have noticed as a good change is the new look of the group pages. They have a more attractive look to them and are a good tool for companies.
I personally think Facebook makes too many changes. However, I am not looking at it from the perspective of a company or marketing standpoint. I think it is important that Facebook makes it easier, and more efficient for companies to market, and reach their consumers on a more personal level. However, I think it is becoming too complicated when using it to keep in touch with friends, and family (which is the more common use). As far as I am concerned, if it is isn't broken, don't fix it. The new picture viewing system really bothers me, and I still haven't fully adjusted to the new profiles. I personally, get frustrated every time I sign in, only to be greeted with a message telling me more changes have been made. If the changes are benefiting companies, then maybe change the layouts of groups, and fan pages, but leave personal accounts alone.
The new changes on Facebook were not as extreme as some recent changes that they have made. I think that the newest changes are more geared towards group pages and making them easier to edit and establish for the people who run them. They did however make changes to how you can view pictures and I do not like the format it looks like there is a glitch with the page rather than just a black background and it looked more polished before in my opinion.
Some of the Facebook pages that are my favorite are company pages that have a tab for information about employment and internships and those companies who actually respond to students or prospective employees who write on their walls. Especially for companies in the advertising or marketing industry it makes them look like they are up to date with technology when they keep up with their Facebook.
Facebook does seem to make changes, and often at that. However, in a fast paced world of changing technology, lots of things have to change in order to keep up with this. Facebook seems to be going in the direction of branding yourself/commercialization vs keeping in touch with friends. When I first got invited to join Facebook, I did it for the sole purpose of communicating with people I didn't see everyday. Now, I can definitely see how the changes are geared towards creating a personal page for yourself, or a brand that might be advertised towards businesses. I think Facebook might benefit from addressing the changes they make because I log on and suddenly I have trouble navigating my profile etc. I have begun to build my new profile by updating my information; however, I think I still might be missing something that makes my page unique to myself, or my brand.
Personally, I think Facebook makes too many changes too often. I feel like whenever I get used Facebook, it changes again. I don't like the new changes, especially the photo view. It seems weird and awkward to me, and I would rather view the photos the old way. I like the idea of being able to go back to the same page after viewing photos, but there has to be a better way to integrate that into Facebook, because what they have now is not working for me (and from comments of other students, it's not working for them either.) As for the new Facebook page, I actually help manage a Facebook page because I am interning at a social media company. I do not like the changes, it looks exactly like the new facebook profile, which I do not like. I don't like how the status's won't be shown on top, and that is very important to businesses, especially those that deliver news to their fans. I like the old layout much better.
I am having trouble adjusting to the new photo view as well! I get that it's more iphoto-esque, but I definitely liked the old way better as well. I do not like the photos that appear at the top of your profile either. Does anyone know if there is a way to change which photos appear first at the top of your profile? So far, mine just appear by how recently they were uploaded. I think if we could choose photos (which might be possible, I'm not sure), it would be much more beneficial than the most recently tagged photos.
The new Facebook layout is pretty cool. I like most what people have done with their tagged photos at the top of the page. A friend of mine has a picture of a really cool car that he sliced into five pics. Together they make the complete car... pretty cool. The newest thing about Facebook that I find very useful is the picture viewer. Any picture you click on brings up an overlay window, by flash or something, that allows you to look through pictures without leaving the page you were initially on. I haven't really experienced too much as a page admin. because, well I don't have a reason to make a page. My favorite page on Facebook that I like to follow is the Adobe Creative Suite page. They give you awesome tutorials and everything else about their products. The page also allows you to throw up your own work for people to see. I think most of the other pages are kinda crap. Basically just a forum for a topic, subject of study, activity or something. Also there could be like a million different pages for DJing. So which one is the one to follow with some legit people? Who knows?! Facebook overall though is the sickest social media site 'cause you're right about the time on site. Everyone eats, sleeps, and breathes Facebook. It's kinda sick, but totally cool.
I created my Facebook page less than one month ago, and already I have seen various changes. Modernization is a key component of social media outlets, therefore, the new Facebook advancements are relevant to the latest trends. Facebook administrators must keep users satisfied, thus promoting advertising opportunities to companies, both domestically and internationally. Generating profits through advertising and marketing efforts is the main objective. Welcoming new users into the social media population persuades businesses to communicate with Facebook's growing audience(s). My favorite attribute is the photo slideshow, because it is easily accessible with smooth transitions. The layout of the page is dynamic, with new features strategically placed. The preview of photos is an attention grabbing facet that optimizes the experience. It entices users to explore newly added photos when browsing the designated page. I am eager for future Facebook characteristics to be introduced, as computer science engineers continuously enhance the format. I recently added family members to my page so that my "friends" who view my page can distinguish who I am related to and how. I plan to update my personal page every single day as new updates are installed.
I feel like every time you get used to a format on facebook, it changes. Then, you have to try to get used to it again. That may be why I use it less than I used to. I tend to use things more that I am comfortable with, so when it's changed comfort lessens. However, I the most recent change I feel was not a hugely disturbing one. Perhaps I am just getting used to the constant changes. I haven't changed anything with my facebook page. Not quite sure what you mean by have we "built our new Facebook page yet."
Facebook is constantly changing and updating page layouts. At times I like the changes, and in other instances it takes some time to get used to the changes. After reading this post I went and looked at the new layout and checked out the New Media page. Because I am not an admin for a page like this, the changes don't really affect me, but I like the way they make it look more like a regular profile page. I think that Facebook is doing a great job continuously updating aspects to benefit companies and marketers. Facebook now allows them to interact with customers, which wasn't the case in the past. The changes Facebook is making are great and I think they will continue to do a good job doing so.
The thing that makes an organization's Facebook page so different and unique than a personal Facebook is the information that is posted often include links. This is helpful to whomever is viewing the page because it not only gives you an insight to the organization (or in this case, New Media Driver's License Class) but also outside resources as well. Change is inevitable with online technology, but I think it should progress just slowly enough to users to change with it. When the "new" Facebook emerged, not many people were a fan because too many things changed and too rapidly. I like the way the new photo albums appear and minor appearance changes.
Personally, I don't like change. Eventually I get used to the Facebook changes but in the beginning usually don't like them. For this new change, I don’t like how they show pictures on the top of everyone's Facebook page. If I want to look at someone’s pictures I will click on them. Also, the new way to view photos is very annoying. It is so inconvenient to have a new window pop up, because once you are finished viewing it is an extra step to get back to the homepage.
Sara, I agree with you on some aspects of the new Facebook. Although I realize there is value for organizations in the new Facebook, I personally don't care for some things. I don't like the new way to view photos either. The pictures all show up smaller than before within the pop-up window. I'm sure I will get used to it, but as for right now I don't like that. It can get kind of annoying with how frequently aspects of Facebook change. I guess they're trying to keep things fresh so that people don't leave for another online platform.
Likely same as other people, changed by new picture view of layout on facebook seems to me “wow”, it is displayed better to perform as like clearly and think be more organized. I think facebook with changed new feather that keeps following global trends and try to consider more convenience way of people’s use for better performance in order to compete with other social media such as twitter. Anyway I think it is a good job for doing this new feature.
I love the new changes that facebook has made. It always keeps me on my toes, and I haven't yet gotten sick of the page because of the constant change. I feel like everything that they do is for the better, not only for us, but for the business side as well. The one thing I was upset about with the recent changes though, was the size of the pictures. I do like how it opens into a new tab where you can easily be back to the page before.
Although I usually dread when facebook changes its operating ways or appearance, I usually get used to it really fast and end up liking it better than before. It keeps it new and working fast all the time with the constant changes and its getting easier and easier to use. I do not like the new photo viewing screen and set up because it makes the pictures appear smaller, and it just seems unecessary to me. I do like all the changes they have been making to different pages and on a professional note they have definately improved functionality. I personally like television show pages that inform you of specials and times of episodes, and also other pages like company profiles if they inform you about jobs and the people that work there. It can be really helpful to see what kind of offering they have.
Do you think facebook now is changing into a more social network. instead of a social media for just friends and family ?
