We're reaching the end of the semester and you've been exposed to lots of new media marketing strategizes and techniques. While the curriculum covers a vast amount of information in reality we've only scratched the surface. Any given lesson could be an entire course. Additionally, there's lots of topics we didn't cover at all.
We often do a Q&A as part of the last class. Here is your opportunity to ask us questions about anything. It could be related to a lesson we covered, a lesson we didn't cover, work, getting a job or life in general.
Let us know what you'd like to know and we'll select a handful of questions to answer next week.
Comments & Feedback
I am a journalism major so before this class I knew nothing about the advertisiment. And after this course, I have learned a lot. What I want to know more about is the developing trendency of advertising market, what parts increase and what parts decrease.
What are some tips when interviewing with potential employers? As well as what are some tips on getting these interviews in the first place? Is there something employers look for in resumes or cover letters? These questions have been very pressing as my graduation date gets closer.
I'm about to graduate and extremely terrified and excited. What would be some advice you have for the application process? I am really torn between non-profits and agencies, which are incredibly different I know. But how would you try and get in with either and what advice do you have about the whole notion of landing your dream job (right out of the gates)? I think people put so much pressure on having the right job instantly, but I think it's more of a process. Lastly, if I wanted to look for advertising jobs in the Detroit/Ann Arbor area, what places would you recommend checking out? :)
I honestly think all of the lessons in this course were extremely beneficial and I learned more than I originally expected from this class being that I've alreadt taken tons of advertising courses. I really enjoyed learning about digital marketing, especially social media. One random question I have is do you have any recommendations on where to put a portfolio online to use when applying for jobs? A website or google drive?
I throughouly enjoyed the class because it touched on a lot of aspects of digitial marketing. As we shift to an age of digitialization and artificial intelligence the imortance of being aware in terms of data and programming will be important. I enjoyed researching my brand from the inside and out diving into their digitial prescence. What I would like to how is artificial intelligence the answer to digital problems . While programming is great what happens if there is flaw, will the system be able to handle the problem. We the people are the communicators of this society who make changes and implement change.
What are your thoughts on artifical intelligence and how will this concept shape the future of digital marketing?
I honestly did not know anything about advertising or marketing before this class, but I did learn a great amount of information dealing with internet marketing. I would like to learn more about the designing of the advertisements. I just wonder if there is any research explaining what a customer prefers in advertisements. What are the best ways to design a successful ad? What size or colors are the most important when doing an advertisement?
After the first day, I really did not know what to expect from this class. After the first couple of weeks of getting adjusted, I started enjoying the things that I learned and researched. I wish there was a way to actually learn from you both to see how its done but this way I got to really pull the knowlegde and strength from within to figure it out on my own. I don't really have a question, just wanted to let you know that I enjoyed this class and I look forward to using what I learned from this course in the real world.
After researching the analytics side of advertising/marketing this semester, I would like to know more about how much information a company can actually obtain from an individual. I would like to know how much of an individual user's information is actualy Private. The last thing I wouldlike to know is, about what exactly is in the statements on various sites when asked to " accept the terms and conditions". They are contracts and things can be hiden inside, so I would like to know a few of the ridiculous things websites add in their to take advantage of their customers/users.
Overall, I think this class is very helpful and meaningful. The question I would like to ask is that what can a new media drivers license bring to me? Will it provide me more opportunities on finding a good job in after I graduate? Or are there some jobs that you could apply for it only if you have this license?
I think this class was awesome and it got me to actually enjoy what I was doing. It was not just a class that lectured all day, only had powerpoints full of vocab. This class actually let me breathe. I believe the class was done flawlessly, however, the only critique I have is getting feedback. I would have loved to get written feedback on each of my assignments, which, may be a little excessive due to the number of people in the class, but critiscism would've been kindly appreciated.
What are some titles or occupations in the online and social media industry? What are some ways to make yourself stand out as a candidate?
I think this class did a wonderful job of covering a wide amount of material in a short amount of time. I really feel more comforatable overall with digital marketing after taking this class. Some additional things I would of liked to learn would have been programmatic advertising. I just read an article on it and would have been intrigued to learn about it in class. Other than that I think everything was well explained over the time given! I am looking forward to the agency tour Monday!!!
This class was very beneficial in understanding digital marketing and strategies. I do not really have any questions for you guys. Thank you for a great class and teaching me things I will use in my every day life.
This class has been super benificial to me. I really enjoyed the new topics each week on the same project. Thanks for a great class! I have no questions for you either.
I really enjoyed this class and everyone topic in this class is meaningful for media industry. My question is what do you think about the future of media industry?
I am currently studying Media and Information with a concentration in Interactive and Social Media, and was really glad to take this course, as it touched on many fundamental and necessary concepts of Social media marketing.
My question is, as a senior ready to graduate in the Spring, what can I do to better enhance my skills in addition to internship or job experience, so that I can be well versed in this industry?
This class is very helpful. My question is are many company starting focus on their inbound marketing right now? Is there company that do not fit in inbound marketing strategy?
What are good questions that might be important to ask in a job interview? What are the greatest skills you look for when hiring and interviewing prospects? Is there anything that will instantly turn you off from a candidate?
I am wondering why Donald Trump can be a president of United States. How's he doing so far? Do you think he can do much more achievments than Obama?
This adv 420 class did helped me and understand concepts of online digital strategy marketing. Before this class I did not aware importance of online marketing. Throughout focusing on one specific brand I learned a lot about it and importance about this field. This lesson will provide good example of setting my goal from future. Thank you!!
I really like this course, and so glad to take this course. I learned a lot from the ADV 420 like the inbound marketing, online advertising, etc. And I do not have questions. Thank you!
This class has been extremely helpful for me, I am someone who plans on creating websites and managing online businesses so everything in this class has been relevant. I am very interested in SEO and becasue of this class I now have a good foundation to build upon. This class has really opened my eyes to new opportunites and what i want to do when i graduate.
I honestly have really enjoyed this class. It wasn't anything too hard, but it forced you to stretch your thinking and come up with ideas that you never thought you would. Even though we weren't able to delve too far into any specific topic, I feel as if I have a strong grip and understanding of every concept we've studied.
My question is this:
Is there any one topic that we should investigate and learn more about for our future careers. Especially those in advertising?
Thank you for a great semester.
This class has been extremely enjoyable for me, and I've taken a lot of valuable information about social media and the aspects of marketing through the media. My question for you is are there any jobs that are more in the communication type field with advertising through social media? I enjoy writing and doing research on how to better reach audiences through social media and how to improve a company, but I do prefer the aspect of doing presentations and actually face-to-face communicating with people over typing on a computer. What are your thoughts?
I learned much about marketing in this class. It was a bonus to research about the Detroit Pistons all semester.
My question is: How new is Inbound Marketing?
I loved that I was able to study almost every aspect of my favorite brand's marketing and digital strategies. My question is: Do you believe a strong presence on social media will continue to play a part in a brand's success or will it become less important over the next few years?
This class was very helful and I am so glad to take this course.
I have pme question: We talked about Inbound marketing in this clss. Do you think Inbound marketing is better than other marketing?
This was an awesome and relevant class to take as an Advertising major! My question would be what do you look for most when hiring someone straight out of college? Thanks!
I am so happy to take this class, my major is economy, I learned lot from ADV420 and I like it. I don't have any question, thanks all of you.
This is my last semester in MSU, I am glad that enrolled this class. I'm so happy study with you guys. I have a question that if I switch the final class from 16 to 8 need I send professor an e-mail?
Thank you for bringing such a practical course to MSU. I've learned so much this semester and look forward to taking all of this knowledge into my future career. My biggest questions are in regard to what moves you made after graduation. Did you know immeadiately that marketing was your area of interest? What suggestions do you have for graduates in terms of job searching and standing out to employers?
I am so glad that study ADV 420. I learned a lot knowledge about new media strategy. And it is useful for me. My question is that how to find a suitable job for us and how do we know that this job is right for us.
I really enjoyed this class and the freedom we had with it and what brands we wanted to choose because I ended up having fun with it :). My questions I have are what is some advice you may have for us graduating this December and are on the search for jobs? Also, interviews are usually my main challenge most of the time (I get SO nervous), are there any tips you could maybe give on things to keep in mind while dealing with professional interviews or other things that would make good first impressions? Thanks!
First of all, I think this class is very helpful and interesting. I learned lots of new knowleadge about social media strategy. Moreover, we learned somthing with relationship between social media and marketing. I think it is very important.
I have two questions.
First, do you have any suggestion for future advertiser?
Second, do you think traditional print ads is also important in nowadays?
A friend of mine had previously taken this class and she said y'all were real funny professors and super helpful! I'm glad I took this course as I have definitely learned a lot. I guess one thing I would want to learn would be about some workshops or seminars you think we should totally go to outside of class? Any upcoming new ones? I want more hands on experience.
I became Inbound certified based on Professor Mehreban's reccomendation and enthusiasm. However, I am still having a hard time finding internships because of my overall GPA. Are there any reccomendations that you have for me on how to better improve my resume to make sure that my GPA is not the main thing that matters to employers. Thanks.
This class has been very beneficial to me as I feel that I have gained a better understanding of new media strategies. I had very little understanding of how agencies have been able to evolve over time to handle the new abilities created through technology. After learning about different techniques I feel that I will have an easier time when I move into my career after college. I would like to ask though how you both found success after college? It seems that many people agree that when you are looking for a job out of college it can be a bit much. I feel overwhelmed at points but I know that many people have struggled with this as well. Is there any suggestions you have on how to find a job out of college that you enjoy and will pay the bills?
I am so happy to take this class ADV420, from this course, I learned lots of useful knowledge about social media, digital strategies. Via the brand case, I knew how to utilize various social media to improve the brand. On the other, I acquired some new knowledge about advertising, such as the inbound market. I don't have any questions about our class. Thank you, professor.
Thank you so much for an new and innovative course. I believe we had a lot of freedom in this class compared to others & were shown many new skills. I am very interested in non-profit organizations and would love to hear your advice/opinion on advertising for non-profit groups and organizations.
First of all, I would like to say thank you for a great class. I have learned a lot of relevant stuff, which I will take with me home to Denmark. In terms of further questions I only have a few:
1) What do you predict will be the next big thing in digital marketing?
2) Besides from Google Adwords, Google Analytics, and Hubspot are there other programs you would suggest that one became certified in and familiar to?
Once again, thank you for a great class!
First off, I just want to say thank you for running this class. I feel like I've learned more relevant information in the class than the majority of my classes at MSU. As far as more questions, I don't have any big ones, but just a few suggestions for the class going forward
1) Incentivizing people to get their AdWords certification by offering extra credit for that as well
2) Giving a class on TweetDeck. This is something I hear a lot about, but I don't have the faintest idea how to use it.
Cheers, and thanks again for an awesome class!
This class has been very helpful for me to learn about marketing strategies. My question is: what are the most important aspects need to be focused in our resume?
Thanks for a useful and informative semester! I guess my only main question coming out of this semester would be, how can we use what we've learned to market ourselves better in an interview situation? I'm still working on making my resume better but I feel like a lot of what I've learned is helpful but can't be put on paper on my resume, any advice on how to use this for my benefit in an interview?
Also, just a side note, can we receive any partial extra credit if we're working on the Hubspot Inbound certification but haven't finished it by the last class or is it all or nothing?
Thanks again for a great semester!
Thank you for an awesome semester! I was thinking about the difference in print and digital advertising. On instagram, facebook and all other social media accounts advertising has become a huge part of certain companies marketing plans. I was wondering if advertising in print will eventually become irrelivant and a waste of money for some companies? Or if it is still a good way for companies to attract consumers.
This class is really helpful and I learned a lot from those assignments. Digital market plays an important role in our daily life nowadays, will the digital market totally replace the traditional medium like magzines, newspaper in the future?
I took away a lot from this class and I'm very thankful for that. I enjoyed how each assignment had guidelines, yet there was still a lot of freedom and room to make these assignments your own. I would just like to know how to get started in the advertising/marketing world and put yourself out there for employers. Thanks for a great semester!
Thanks for the impressive semester. I think analyzing a brand or a market is easier than running a business, because our points of view are usually subjective. The class taught us how to analyze markets from different parts. I just wrote what I found for assignments, but I’m not sure whether my analysis is feasible or not. Do you have any suggestions for these brands to run efficiently?
I would love to hear what advice you have for someone who is trying to get involved in the marketing/advertising aspect of a professional sports team or college team? I’m very passionate about sports and am interested in working with these teams in some sort of way. I really enjoyed this course, thank you!
I am a musician with a band who is just starting out. What are your thoughts on Patreon vs YouTube? YouTube requires a lot of followers to get monetized but Patreon also seems a stretch to get people to patronize your work - especially if much of it is more widely available on YouTube.
Thanks for the class - it was very useful and I will use much of what I learned very soon.
I want to know how to start the job finding process in the field of Media Marketing. I am a senior and will be graduating in the spring, and I have no idea where to even begin. I don't know where to look for jobs, what they want to see on my resume, what should be in my cover letter, or what other experiences they would want me to have had before starting.
