What do you personally think the most important part of this class is? I know its all important but what do you think is going to be most helpful to us?

The most important part is the stuff we don't teach you. It's the light bulb that goes off in your head as you learn this stuff. It's when you realize that you have a great power to make things happen in your future, and digital gives you the tools to do it. We don't teach you how to code apps for example. If you could do that you could make a lot of $$$ right out of college. But chances are you're going to have to train yourself. All this is self learned. So my friend, what did you learn? What connects with you? And what part of this class do you think can influence your future the most?

What goes into "Very Valuable Emails?"

It depends. Depends on where you are in the purchase cycle. Depends what information you need to move forward in the sales process. A valuable email could be a coupon, or special training information, or introducing you to the person you will spend the rest of your life with. And that's the job of the marketer to figure out what the prospect would consider valuable. And to make a guess on when is the right time to get them that email. And to write it in such a way that it delights the reader and makes them excited for the brand, product or service you are offering. You can make any email a valuable email. And some emails are just shit.

Is it possible for social media to damage a brand image?

Yes, it is very possible. Think about when brands, and I mean large brands mess up on a social media response over a serious customer service issue. That often blows up. Or think about the founder of Jimmy John's who is a big game hunter and shot an endangered black rhino. And now everyone says boycott Jimmy Johns. That could really hurt business.

What is the appropriate number a business should contact a customer (through any of the mediums) in a week to make sure the customer doesnt get annoyed with them?

This is a really good question, and it's something you will have to consider. As long as you are giving information that is important and wanted by the consumer, you may not annoy them. If you push or try and sell each time you send information it may really annoy them. I would think 4-5 touches per week is plenty. Mix it up. Of course, you post less on Facebook. More on Twitter. Maybe 1-2 emails. So just be wary. Passive communication like Twitter is not a problem. But if you fill up their inbox or Facebook feed with annoying stuff, you're in trouble.

What are the biggest differences between marketing on Pinterest and makreting on sites like Facebook, Twitter or Instagram?

Pinterest allows you to post things under topics and be found easily because you are relevant to the topic and other posts. I guess this is similar to a #Hashtag on Twitter. Pinterest also gives people the ability to save, pin and curate your content for later. So there is more long term value. Therefore it's a great place to share important items that you spend time creating - infographics, stats, and important items that deserve to be both saved and shared.

This week I have a question about budgeting and knowing how much money to spend on advertising and expanding your brand. How much money should you put aside to your brand message and your objectives?

Marketing on Pinterest is different than any other social media outlet because you already know what your consumer is looking for. It's easier to tailor your message and direct it to who you need to. Also, the way that Pinterest does advertising is very seamless and it isn't in your face, it's subtle and it works. Do you think that he demographic for Pinterest will ever shift to be more equal in terms of women and men?

Do you feel that it is effective or intrusive to run a campaign with similar or same content across different social media formats? For example, if Oakley began to run an advertisement that was seen through sponsored posts on Instagram, would it loose its power if the same advertisment is then seen by the same viewer once they switch over to lets say their Twitter account (via sponsored Tweet)? In other words, would this effectively raise brand awareness and get the positioned message to the user, or would the message become redundant, and in turn loose it's power?

What do you believe to be the most valuable aspect of making a blog successful or the most "followable". I've recently started a fashion blog/instagram and would love some insight/helpful tips.

I am very interested in media. Last summer I worked in broadcasting and this summer I am working in print at a magazine. Is it a dying field? Will I one day have to make the move to digital? Is this just a waste of my time working in print?

This semester I learned a lot of my brand. It was really interesting to get to know the brand and see everything they do and criticized some of their strategies. Having to follow Michael Kors in all social media platform was really interesting because I got to understand the startegies they implement for their consumers. In my opinion, everything we learned was in the right order because it provided my with useful informaiton to understand my brands desires.

When I was looking at Pintrest and specifically the pintrest for my brand (Macy's) they had items pinned but it didnt' really seem like a marketing strategy to me. It was more just like idea boards/ ads. How useful can that really be to the consumer, it was basically an extension of their instagram. Wouldn't it be more useful to just have one or the other.

Student

I really think in regards to the question about social media hurting a brand image, keeping it's employee's personal lives out of the spotlight is crucial! I get that a hot shot CEO from Jimmy John's would be proud of his part in such a large company, but if he wants to keep his controversial lifestyle out of the spotlight, he shouldn't tie together the company's social media accounts with his own! A company like Jimmy John's should definitely have enough content and are large enough that executives and employee lives not be connected to the company.

Prior to NMDL, I thought all social media channels were created equally- for personal networking.  Aside from LinkedIn being a professional networking site, I really hadn't considered using Facebook, Instagram, much less Pinterest for business building.  I enjoyed the Pinterest activity as I learned just how much content exists way outside of the only boards I had ever searched: fitness, fashion, reading, and travel.  I think there is opportunity to dig in deeper about a formula of how often to market through which channel.

If a business decides to take time and effort to create a digital strategy that they believe works best for them, how can they be sure to keep up with the ever-changing trends of the social and online world?

Student

I think this week's assignment is the most important step for this course because we have to use all the information and knowledge what we did during whole semester. It feels like this assignment is a final report of my brand. And I learned a lot through this course such as many different kinds of marketing strategies. It was very helpful to me.

Student

While analyzing my companies socail media, I saw many of it's strengths, but my research also revealed holes in their marketing campain, (especially with customer service). How do you go about actually changing a brand's image? Is it better for companies to use more of a subtle approach, or should they admit thier mistakes with a huge relaunch?

Student

This semester I learned from this course a lot of knowledge about network marketing. I think for my brand Tencent QQ is the most practical email marketing. Because I think that email marketing is extremely versatile. And now people will use most of the time email. However, email marketing there are some problems. each brand is give users to send mail, which allows users to feel very confused.

Student

Many companies have been extremely successful with their different digital media strategy's. Some of these strategy's have taken a somewhat unknown business and skyrocketed them to success in today's ever changing digital age. However, there are some companies that do a far better job than others. What company do you believe has the best digital media strategy and what have they done to stand out?

Student

In my opinion, the most important part of this class is researching information about our specific brands, and honing in on what sparks an interest in us as future advertisers. Furthermore, I enjoyed the midterm and final projects because they allowed us to actually utilize social media, and see how these sites work first hand. Additionally, being able to do something such as making boards on Pinterest applies to our own personal interests.

Student

Something that I've been most surprised with and have learned about in this course is how efficient email marketing remains today despite having so many social media platforms for content to be delivered. Do you see the direction of marketing communication further lean towards instant services like Snapchat or do you think there will always be a place for traditional email marketing especially as inbound marketing has taken precedent today with most companies marketing strategy.

Student

I was also very surprised to find out how efficient email marketing still is today. I do see the direction of marketing moving towards social media, however, because our generation is more likely to check social media several times a day, rather than email.

Student

Working with Kellogg's this semester, I have had the opportunity to take a close look at their social media presence, website, mobile app(s), and ad campaigns. When interviewing for future internships and job postions, how can I apply this experience to the work I will be doing in these positions? What does having a "New Media Driver's License" truly mean? In addition, since our time studying Google Analytics and AdWords was limited, do you reccommend I do my own research and possibly even take courses to really become familiar with the material? If so, what sort of resources can you reccommend for me?

Student

Shelling out money to Google for Google Adwords is not efficient without a proper strategy, and also lazy in a way. However, adblockers are becoming increasingly popular, esspecially on mobile platforms. What would be your best suggestion to get around the increasing use of ad blockers, while also getting the best possible ROI (aka not paying large sums of money to Google/other publishers)?

Student

What are some steps that digital marketing is going to take in the next few years or possibly decade that we may not know about or are just gaining popularity?

Student

For almost the entirety of the semester I've been unaware of this part of the participation assignment, and since this is our final opportunity for a blog post, I'm going to try to start (and finish) this assignment with a bang.

We've been developing social media strategies for our brand for almost three months now (I myself have been working on Motorola's brand social media strategy), but after this class these assignments will probably just sit on our computers' hard drives. This course has taught me so much about SEO, key metrics, mobile applications, and other crucial brand components. I believe some, if not most, of the assignments we've completed are good ideas that could potentially help our different brands. One of the expectations of each assignment was that it "must be client ready, nicely formatted and formal in language."

So here is my question, which can apply to the whole class as well: in order to make sure what I spent a whole semester doing doesn't completely go to watse, what steps can I as a student take toward Motorola to ensure they at least take a look at my devised social media strategy, if nothing more than to see what I've done?

Student

In regards to marketing on Pinterest, I found this site one of the more difficult to follow out of all the social media sites. It also seems to be one of the less-used out of all the sites from what I have gathered. My question is: why put effort into this site when it seems not to be popular? Also, I feel one email a week is more than enough times to a business should be emailing a customer. Depending on your target audience I feel most posts should be on Facebook, but only things that are going to attract customers.

Student

The digital marketing strategiesof many companies are similiar, and how to avoid the situation and build the special one?

Student

What type of things will a digital advertising company expect you know and be able to do on your own in terms of creating digital advertising and how much of that will be guided/taught based on their specific advertising needs?

Student

The most important thing I have learned by taking this class is how new media is the way of the future for advertising.  Prior to taking this class I had the idea that digital marketing was complex and difficult because of principles like seo, adwords, and how to build a successful landing page.  What new media driver’s license has shown me is that the big picture isn’t necessarily about nailing every aspect of new media, however, its more focused on finding out what drives your target customers to your company and how to best reach them.  While this may mean abandoning a few of the new media tools which we have at our disposal, we must understand that our target market may not even use that particular tool as part of their daily life.

Student

I thought your answer to the first question was very interesting, and it really made me think. Are there any websites you would recommend checking out if I am trying to teach myself how to code? Do you have any advice or pro tips for a beginner?

Student

What is the most creative step in digital marketing that a company has taken in recent years? Also what are some things marketing professionals can do to come up with more creative digital marketing tactics?

Student

How do we maximize our creativity as an industry while integrating data-driven approaches?

Student

After learning about the ways to advertise on digital, which medium would you say most effectively reaches consumers and why?

Student

Google AdWords offeres CPC (Cost per Click) and CPI (Cost per Impression) option. Which is the most effective one? CPI cannot be tracked but CPC can. Hence ROI can be tracked with CPC but what about cost effeciency? What should a company invest in?

Student

Besides the traditional methods of calculating the ROI for a digital strategy, what are some undervalued methods that brands can look at to track success and often should brands be looking at these KPIs?

Student

What websites or tools do you think are necceassry for running a sucessful social media campiagn(not platforms like Facebook, Twitter or Instagram)?

Student

Personally, the most important part of this class has been the way I think about social medias. Before this class I knew about advertising on social media but I had no clue how complex composing a tweet could be. Another helpful aspect of the class has been trying to think through the mindset on an advertising firm. If forced you to consider all possibilities and I could see it being a useful tool after college.

Student

Being a college student, I know for myself and many of my friends, blogs really aren't that relevant. At least not more so than social media giants like Facebook or Twitter. Are they still relevant to businesses?

Student

How can companies convert social media followers into customers?

Student

Of social media, inbound marketing, search marketing, etc., which do you see as the most important to focus on or the one you find most effective in advertising?

Student

What's the best way to pitch social/online marketing to a company that doesn't understand the difference between a pin and a tweet? Just talk about the potential ROI regardless of the tactics?

Student

What is the best social media campaign you've seen so far?

Student

Throughout this class, we have learned a ton of different ways to market your brand and use the "digital age" to your advantage. What is the best way to use digital marketing for a startup business to get its name out there and start building their target audience and loyal audience quickly and efficiently?

Student

I think that the most helpful thing about this class has been learning about all the different angles one should look at when addressing a full digital media strategy and all of the ways one can take advantage of the internet and what it possesses to better themselves or their company. Looking at the different tactics we learned to make sure that we are hitting the target audiences that we are after will be a big help, especially for our generation when lots of the things we learned in this class are things we "thought" we knew  a lot about, but being able to implement them efficiently is the most important thing. Do you think that there are any major companies off the top of your head who struggle majorly with social media or digital marketing strategy?

Student

how Do you think advertising is important to a company?

Student

my question will be how the inter net figure out when I put in comma such as “,” or something like “:,;”. And if some company want to get their link on the first page, the first preference to show, do they need to pay? Or depends on the click amount?
