The timeline on Facebook has allowed companies to attract consumers to their primary call of action through a visually appealing image. Some companies have embraced the timeline and others are struggling to creatively tell their story. Virgin America http://www.facebook.com/VirginAmerica understands branding and has transformed its 245,000 likes into a social maven for the travel industry. Customers can view photos, videos, share experiences and receive discounts all from one dynamic Facebook profile. Virgin describes its mission as a breath of fresh airline and customers can receive an accurate portrayal of the atmosphere and culture through their pinterest page that has been linked into their timeline. In the highly competitive airline industry, Virgin's differentiation strategy is one of innovation and upscale entertainment. Their timeline is a great example of a company that listens to their customers and provides a state of the art flying experience.
Since I graduated last May, I've attempted to switch my use of Facebook from personal to professional. In my effort to mirror other organization's pages I have found that Facebook is best used for retention purposes, not recruitment. I have yet to find a site that grabs me away from what I'm doing more than once and creates so much interest that I go back to check it regularly. Other social media channels are much better at grabbing the attention of your audience and re-directing them where you'd like them to be (Twitter, for example). Facebook is a great tool to retain participants, customers, and past relationships that have already been established. One great new feature of timeline, once you get used to it, is the banner display. This creates an additional opportunity for individuals to further brand themselves and develop their identity. People do resist change and although it can be frusterating, I think Facebook has made some very well thought out changes for the overall improvement of their site.
I personally was not a fan of Timeline when it first came out. I've always been a supporter of the original facebook layout, and when I saw that they were forcing some people to switch to Timeline, me being one of them, I wasn't very happy. I didn't like the concept of the layout including the "cover photo", and the downsizing of the profile picture, which makes some of them look weird.
I can honestly say that my views on Timeline have taken a complete 360. After taking the tour of Timeline, I am a lot more open to it now. I like how you can go back by month and year and see posts from the past, thats pretty cool. I also like how it logs your activity, so you can keep track of what you've been doing on facebook.
One company that I think does an exceptional job with their timeline is The North Face (https://www.facebook.com/thenorthface). They give updates on products, events, and other things that the company is involved in. They even post pictures of current North Face users. I think they do a good job of promoting their company and making their brand known to the public.
I really enjoy the facebook timeline. I really like how the layout is displayed and how it is sychronized to a date and specific time. It is cool how you can comepletely express yourself through your own page and history of your life. Although no one has had facebook that long, as time goes on your timeline will expand and include significant events of your life. I like the Ingenex Digital Facebook, it makes the business seem much more friendly to approach. The cover photo on Facebook's timeline is good for people to express themselves in a creative matter. The cover photo is my favorite part of the Facebook timeline.
I absolutely love Facebook's new format. I believe that it is more organized, easier to read, and simply better look at then the ones they've used in the past. A lot of that is thanks to the new cover photo. The cover photo is the first thing people see (even before your face) on any person or brands personal facebook page. It's the immediate attention getter and if used correctly can really suck the viewer in. Out of all the brand pages on Facebook the one I can't help but come back to is Nike Golf's (www.facebook.com/nikegolf). The cover photo is awesome. It starts of by showing a black and white picture of the big name professional golfers sponsored by Nike standing together on a green. The flag in the hole is being held by whom else, Tiger Woods, and has a Nike Swoosh on it. Then the header in big red text says, "The Uniform of Golf." I know I might be bias because I love golf, but that's a pretty cool picture. Unlike most profiles with this new layout, Nike Golf is not just split down the middle with posts on the left and right. Some of their signature commercials and pictures that they post actually take up both sections and the majority of the profile. I thought that was neat and helps them stand out and really show their viewer their product. They continue to do this throughout the page (but not the entire time or that would be annoying) with photos and videos that would attract any golf fans attention. In my opinion Nike Golf has taken full advantage of the benefits of Facebook. I can see why companies and brands are continuing to use social media sites to promote and build a relationship with their target audience.
As far as my personal use of Facebook timeline goes, I had a great time going back and looking at all my posts from high school. It really does tell your story. I think businesses and brands can use this idea of "story-telling" on Timeline as well. Timeline presents an opportunity to track growth and brand evolution through likes, posts, news, and images. Once its in place for awhile brands and businesses will be able to go back and pull out the highlights to show their stakeholders how they've changed.
I think Nike has done a great job with their Timeline (https://www.facebook.com/nike). They do a great job integrating photos of professional athletes and average customers, as well as their popular commercials and latest news. Recently, they started encouraging users to tag photos on Instagram for a chance to be featured in their album. Great use of social media synergy.
Victoria's Secret PINK has been a pretty big hit on Pinterest (http://pinterest.com/vspink). They have a visual product, so Pinterest is a perfect place for them to integrate product images and images of the lifestyle they're trying to promote. PINK recently ran a contest on Pinterest for users to create the most creative Summer PINK pin board. Here's a link to the contest landing page.

I really like the Facebook Timeline. A lot of people complain about it but the best part of it is the huge cover photo that you can use as the title of your page. You can make it into whatever you would like and it is a great expression of personality. I think that Old Spice has done a great job on their FB Timeline by integrating their cover photo & their profile picture. The profile picture is a great thumbnail & easily identifiable to other users. Another great example is Nike, which has a great thumbnail picture of the swoosh symbol and then a cover photo of various soccer players to promote the approaching soccer season
I starting using the new Facebook Timeline a few months back. At first, I didn't like it because it was a little bit confusing. But after, I started to enjoy it. The big cover photo at the top allows each person and company to express their personality. It gives a whole new feel to the page. The Timeline also allows you to place emphasis on important events and filter out those that aren't as important. Red Bull utilizes Facebook in a great way. It's target customers are young and Facebook users to it's a great way to target them.
I love the new timeline! To be honest, I think that it weeds out a lot of the information that most people are not interested in (such as things from five years ago). I thinkt the photo at the top is a huge indicator of personality, and can be a way to draw people in to market yourself, or your business.
Taking a look HBO homepage, I have noticed that they entice their audience by presenting fans and viewers with clips from previous episodes, trailers of shows that are coming up in the coming week and shows that are in their final stretch to air another season. Having this premium channel luxury keeps people interested and attached to their favorite shows. In addition, like everyone else, you're able to write or comment on a show, start up a conversation or even share your opinion, which is also convenience at HBOGO.COM. Accumulating over 7.5 likes, and close to 74,000 people talking about their views and opinions on HBO shows is creating a lot of buzz that is storming around the facebook interface.
Another timeline I looked up was Showtime, which didn't seem as effective as HBO. They have a significantly less amount of Likes (Not even 1 million), and there is only close to 1,500 people talking about what they saw on ShoTime. On their wall, Showtime seems to only submit context and doesn't entertain the viewer with a lot of material to watch. Showtime posts articles and content that didn't drive me to curiosity.
HBO>Showtime
I have noticed that Hershey's has done an excellent job embracing Timeline. Their cover photo is exciting and up to date, it seems to change often. At least twice a day the company posts on the wall of their Timeline. The posts often include recipies that incorporate their products, as well as questions to gain customer involvement. Hershey's seems to be slowly embracing Pinterest, like most brands. They have made a page for each of their most favored products; including, Hershey's Kisses and Hershey's Bliss. The brand only has a few followers but has creative boards, such as a Valentine's Day themed board. Unfortunetly, my Facebook profile also has developed Timeline. I do not like it at all. I think the "cover photo" idea is pointless and I do not like how Timeline organized my wallposts and activiity on my wall. I have had Timeline since November and I am still not used to it, nor do I want to get used to it. It was exciting going back to my earlier years on Facebook, but some things are meant to stay in the past. I would love the option to go back to the old profile style. I do not see any benefits to Timeline.
I've noticed that Skittles does a great job of posting interesting and compelling content to its Facebook brand page. The company is effectively targeting those who most frequently use social media by posting content that is humorous, interactive and responsive. Skittles does not have a Pinterest brand page but a search of Skittles does return multiple recipes for Skittles-infused vodka. I see that as an opportunity for Skittles to market another use for their product, but this must be done carefully as to not alienate any market segment that may be sensitive to the idea of coupling alcohol with candy. That may seem like they are trying to get young consumers to drink.
As far as the Ingenex timeline, I like what you are doing and appreciate all the content that the page pushes. Keep up the good work.
I use pinterest frequently and hav'nt run into too many ads so companies using pinterest is a good way to get me (and other consumers I hope) while their guard is down. I have found out about a brand that I now have bought alot of products from called Everlane. A budget clothes shop who has done a tremendous job on pinterest, facabook and twitter.
I think a few good examples of some brands using facebook timeline to their advantage would be Coke and Red Bull. both of which need younger customers to use and respond to their social media to try and make an impression that will stick with them for the long run. I chose Coke over Pepsi in the fifth grade and never looked back.
As for your Ingenex photo, I think it works really well to convey the brand that you are. Its clever and interesting to look at, however I hope there were others taken so that you can change it to keep a fresh look. Also I think Ingenex does a great job posting fresh content and keeping it interesting and involvement high.
A brand that I feel has done a great job with their Timeline is Free People clothing company. Their cover photo and profile picture compliment one another and give viewers a good idea of the styles the company sells. I also checked out their Pinterest page and found it to be effective as well. Both pages do a great job promoting the brand showing what the company is all about.
I have had timeline for a few months now, and I actually do like it. It takes a bit of getting used to, but once you are familiar with how it works I think it is easy to use. I like that Facebook has incorporated cover photos into profiles because I think it adds a bit of personality and individuality to each person's page. It is also much easier to view events from months, and even years previous. And I do like the Ingenex cover photo because, like I mentioned, it gives the company some personality.
The new timeline feature has allowed companies to really expand their creative side and create some interesting pages. I currently work as a Social Media Manager for an advertising firm, and do all of the designing for clients facebook, twitter, youtube, and google+ pages. I am currently finishing up the facebook page for my firm, Marvel Advertising. A couple other examples timeline pages I have made for clients include LambShops and Trail.
Love the photo! It gives your page a great personality! As far as the timeline is concerned in general, I like it. I got a great laugh out of looking through my past few years and can't wait to be able to look back in the future!
The Red Wings have an amazing social media presence but connect extremely well with fans on Facebook. There is always some interesting statistic, picture or quip about the Wings or hockey in general that makes me excited to be a fan and to check in to see what's new. Not to mention using Facebook and Twitter to update the community on the score/gameplay in real-time so you don't miss a goal or a big play when you can't watch the game. Happy NHL playoffs!
Looking at all the brands that have pages on Facebook, I have noticed that they all have the same problem. They are all very limited on customer interaction, which is very valuable to any company. There were a lot of the pages that haven't been updated to the new facebook which shows that some of these companies don't take social marketing seriously. I tried the new timeline and I must say that I wasn't impressed by it. It is very difficult to use for somebody who does not frequent facebook. It is very difficult to navigate through and the simplicity the site once had which made it popular in the first place, is gone.
I think the penguin facebook page uses their timeline really well. They have a lot to say to their customers, and a lot of products that are really different (different genres, new covers, etc.) and I think that they use this timeline to get different people excited about their books.
I didn't know that different brands were using pinterest to the extent that they were! Goodreads had a great pinterest page, and I loved it! they had so many different boards to appeal to different people.
Food Network also has a great pinterest page. They have so much variety for different chefs.
I was really astounded how well companies were using pinterest
I looked at Red Frog Events for the Timeline, they do a nice job. You get a good overview of when they have changed things and added events to their brand. They also do you Pinterest, but it's a bit hard to follow, everything is kind of thrown together. I do not use Pinterest very much so it does not make a difference to me. I actually do like the timeline, you get to see where you started and where you have gotten to on the interenet world. At first it made Facebook fun to browse around your own page.
Big Brothers Big Sisters is a national non-profit organization fostering positive relationships for youth with one-to-one friendships. Their strong influence in the United States already provides for great presence on social media. Their use of Facebook's Timeline is outstanding. With over 45,000 likes, followers share events and new information without Big Brothers Big Sisters needing to do much work. Additionally, they have a strong presence on Pintrest. Because it is such a strong organization with a positive mission, active Internet users are encouraged and happy to share knowledge of Big Brothers Big Sisters. Their strong conviction in the organization and their goal translates in their interest to share with others, spread the word, and boost interest in the organization.
I think the Detroit Red Wings have done a fantastic job with their timeline. Every morning I am excited to check their page and see what's new. One day during the week they will post a picture or share a memory from the past decade. Every day they will highlight a fan with a short bio and picture. They post unique and innovative pictures and thoughts that are linked to the Red Wings in some way, shape or form. At least twice a month they have a contest or giveaway for tickets, merchandise or gift cards. The cover photo is very fitting because it is a picture of the banners hanging from the ceiling in Joe Louis Arena. This picture is placed at the top of the timeline and creates an atmosphere of being at The Joe cheering on our beloved Wings.
I am doing my project on Henri Bendel, an upscale accessories store. I have been following them on Pinterest and checking their Facebook pages since they launched them (about six months ago), and they are keeping up with them really well. On their Facebook page, they upload images of new products or cool new window displays in their flagship store, as well as respond to comments/concerns that any customer may have on their Facebook. Their Pinterest account is kept up with really well, too with "pinning" pictures of what inspires the brand's vision, new products, and places that they want to expand their storefronts to. Overall, I really believe that Facebook and Pinterest are helping companies and brands grow in the right direction with social media.
The new photo rocks! As for timeline, I hate it. I get completely confused on trying to read back and forth, left and right... I dont really enjoy reading top to bottom, scroll-wise, but it was organized. As for my favorite brand pages, most of the branding... comes from the bands I like, or blogs that I follow. My favorites are The Beauty Department and Saves the Day. I love both of them because they interact with their targeted audiences SO well! I have gotten twitter responses from both! I have yet to try timeline, even though my facebook was set to timeline one day.. maybe I will learn to love it. But I find that it almost looks like my old Myspace layout. YIKES!
I checked out the Ralph Lauren pinterest and it was really cool. It seemed that they used a lot of the pictures that they have already taken (to use for magazine ads, catalogs, and in-store) and made them available for their brand "fans" to be able to use on pinterest. I think it is a great way for the brand to expand on the internet and allows for consumers to show other people what they are interested. In turn people see themselves as more connected with the brand and begin to associate their identity with it - which causes them to be more brand loyal!
I have a timeline on Facebook and at first I didn't like it, but now I really enjoy it. It doesn't show my activity on it (the old Facebook used to post on my page when I would write on people's walls or comment on their things) which I like a lot. I like my cover photo because it gives people a glimpse of what I am interested besides just my profile picture. I was recently my birthday and I liked how Facebook grouped together all of my birthday wall postings so that it didn't take up my whole wall.
I've seen some pretty cool time line like "being Latin" on Facebook. I have not yet had the time to explore the time line function as well as I would like too. Facebook, is moving face on changing the layout of your page. This may be to an advantage to the new generation, so change is good. I have also looked at IKEA time line and their pinterest and they are doing a "ok" job. Haven't seen any great time lines out there that blow me away, but I'll do more searching. I'm pretty creative, so maybe I'll look around and improve my timeline by generating ideas off of others.
I thought the Persol optics facebook page was pretty cool. They have a lot of cool abstract art on the page and it really captivates you. The pinterest has a lot of sunglasses !!
The Detroit Pistons, which I'm actually doing my campaign on, actually are doing a great job with their Timeline. Champs Sports is another brand that's doing an awesome job. They post a lot of pictures and videos and feature things that are exclusive to their store right on the cover photo. Whenever new merchandise hits the store, it also hits their timeline. NBC is another company with a great Timeline; they provide links to their other social media accounts and consistently provide video clips and updates on their programming. I'm not big on Pinterest, but doing a little looking around I found one company that most probably wouldn't expect to be big on social media: Bayer, the medical company. It just shows how oriented toward new media and social media our world and businesses are becoming.
As far as my experience with Timeline, I unfortunately have it. I don't necessarily hate it, but I was forced into the change by Facebook, which I don't like. I'm sure it'll just take some getting used to. Ingenex seems like it's getting the hang of it well though. It's good to see that you guys include yourselves in a welcoming manner for the cover photo; it's always great to get to see and know the people behind a business.
I definately think that many of the established, national brands have some great timelines and pinterst boards. However, I also feel that there are quite a few smaller companies who have great pages as well. I personally like the LOFT pages. While this is a pretty well known brand, I do believe that they are smaller than copmanies like Nike or GAP or Kohl's who have huge budgets and departments devoted to keeping up on this stuff. While LOFT still might have a decent budget and staff, I think I like them mostly beucase they appeal to my interests. I am really into fashion and love looking that the things that they have posted or pinned because it is totally my style and I love looking at how they put outfits together. Basically, I think what appeals to me more is how much I am interested in the information and less about how professional or fancy it looks.
About 6 months ago, without really knowing any information about the Facebook timeline, I instantly dismissed the concept just because it was foreign to me. I didn't like the idea of privacy going out the window on Facebook. I was also worried about having to go through a laborious process of mapping out the "entire timeline". Shortly after, I created my timeline only to find that it took me about 5 minutes. Oops! I can say that I honestly really enjoy the timeline now. I like to refer back to Ford for anything social media or internet marketing. Ford has done an awesome job of staying ahead of the automobile industry on the internet. Rich content paints a great picture of the organization on both Facebook and Pintrest.
Personal I really enjoy the Nike Timeline. They are always on top of all of the new social media. Besdies that Coke has a nice facebook page as well as me of course. I really like mine :) www.facebook.com/sietingt
I really didn't like the new facebook timeline at first. It took me a really long time to actually get timeline. I was so used to the old layout and it seemed like a lot of work to actually change it. When I found out they were going to switch them all by a certain date, I finally just decided to get timeline. I wasn't that big on it at first, I thought it was really weird and thought it was weird that people could see what i did a year ago with the ease of a click. It's grown on me a lot, though. I like it a lot and think it organizes things a lot better. As for companies, more so bands, I am not sure I like timeline yet. I don’t like the way it organizes it for a lot of music sites. The page setups they had before suited a lot of them better with the music player and tour dates and things. Now fan posts and band posts are into different categories. I think they need to play on the set up for fan pages a little bit more for me to fully like timeline.
I started using the timeline, not by choice, but simply because it said I had to start using it around the middle of March. It was difficult to get used to at first, and I must admit that I am still not 100% with the layout/format of the timelline. I find it to be cluttered and diverts from the simpilisitic approach of what made Facebook so popular to being with. Looking at a few brands that have pages on Facebook, it seems as if the bigger corporations have a good grasp on their social media campaign, but could do better. Nike, Ralph Lauren (my company), and most sport teams have good understanding of how an interactive and updated social media portal can have on fan perspective and overall business.
When thinking about a brand that I would visit on Facebook, the popular retail store Forever 21 came to mind. I went to their page and saw that they have in fact implemented the new timeline well. They display various clothing styles and deals throughout their page, attracting audience attention and user interaction. Their Pinterest following is also very active and they post new pictures daily.
I have been using Timeline for a while now. At first I did not like it and it took a little getting used to, but now I am ok with it. It is very interesting to be able to go all the way back to when you were born, and seeing everything you have done since you started facebook. There are many things coming up that I have not looked at since I posted them years ago. I like Ingenex’s new cover photo on their timeline, it is very welcoming. I was looking at some company’s timelines and I really like Caterpillar Inc. Their cover photo is very inviting and their picture tells you exactly what company it is. It is organized and shows many pictures of their products and recent news stories. It goes all the way back to 1871 when it was started, telling all the important moments along the way, which must have took a long time to enter into the timeline.
I am not a fan of timeline. I am actually one of the people that has not changed over to it yet. I dont really have much against timeline as i do towards facebook. I am just not really into the whole social network thing. Maybe im old school, idk. But i do like pinterest and what companies do on that site, also with their pages and promoting.
I definitely do not like the Facebook Timeline. It is hard to follow and seems too cluttered. I liked the old layout and how neat and clean the page always appeared. Now I think they are trying to utilize too many tools and it can be a bit confusing.
I think that the brand that utilizes its Facebook page the best is Buffalo Wild Wings. They do a great job in informing their customers of changes and specials and interacting with their fans. They also do a good job of targeting sports lovers and getting new people to check them out.
As for Pinterest, I use it quite frequently and have yet to come across a “brand” page. I think that bloggers benefit the most from Pinterest. Almost all of my pins have come from a blog, and my interest in one pin lead me to check out their whole blog.
Personally, I don't like the Timeline on Facebook. I am already get used to the previous version and I think the Timeline makes the page look "crowded". Although it is easier for users to find the archive, it is confusing for people to chronological order. Unlike Pinterest which just focuses on pictures sharing, Facebook integrates pictures, videos and word messages together. This sometime leads to asmmetries on the page, like the picture below.
At first, I was very anti-timeline. I thought it really complicated the Facebook experience, and did it unnecessarily so. However, after really learning how to navigate it, the direction it takes you actually simplifies your experience and makes your network cloud far more accessible. It also recognizes that users are beginning to use Facebook with a primary purpose of looking at peoples pictures, which the new timeline feature truly facilitates. As for a brand pages whose timelines really stood out, ESPN and Reebok really stood out to me. Aesthetically, both extremely pleasing, interactive, and very informational.
The Reese's Facebook page is full of pictures, contests, and cravings for their product. They've presented themself as a fun company and provide pictures, videos, and even March Madness participation. As for my own personal timeline: I hate it. Not that it's simply a change and that I can't deal with that, but that there was absolutely nothing wrong with the previous version of Facebook. As for Pintrest, the people are doing the advertising FOR Reese's. There are several threads devoted to recipe's using their products, which is free advertising for their company.
One of my favorite and most useful brand pages on facebook is The Intern Queen, Inc. The Intern Queen is a fast growing company, which was started by one woman, Lauren Berger. Lauren was interested in helping girls like her, connect with different internships and opportunities across the US. Her timeline is full of customized things, such as cover photos, blog posts and tabs. These customizable traits are what makes her brand page very successful. She was able to create tabs such as an events page, which lists where and when Lauren is able to speak at universities across the nation, and also tabs such as one called "all work no pay," which are downloadable links and youtube videos to help build your resume and help you apply for internships. Another medium she used was pinterest. She built up her pinterest page with pins of fashion and all about how you should dress at an internship. This is something that her targeted market are allowed to directly interact with. They can share their favorite outfits and accessories on their page too!
I definitely like Timeline. As with most of the new Facebook page layout changes users have experienced over the past two or three years, it was tough to adjust to. But it definitely makes the pages more accessible - showing more content, real time updates/history, etc. I really like Forever 21's layout on Timeline - I think it is all-encompassing for what they're trying to go for and give to customers. It shows seasonal updates, images, videos, etc. Plus, for me personally, it really makes me want to visit one of their stores to see the new clothes and accessories in person.
I have not made the switch over to Facebook Timeline, I personally did not feel the need to update yet. I do however like the new ticker updates along the right that shares pages, entertainment, news stories and music from services such as Spotify that your friends have recently viewed. It is nice to keep up with your friends interests and often links you to the page to allow you to check them for yourself.
I frequently use Pinterest, I love pinning recipes I want to try and home craft and organization ideas. The online pin-board works great for brands that advertise their products in the pin images, which explain their products used and link back to the brand website. Pinterest has future potential as an advertising platform for companies, it is a fun way to share ideas and not as bothersome as banner ads and pop up advertisements. Etsy is an example of a company that is doing a great job using Pinterestl! The platform is great for the buying and selling of homemade, handpicked and vintage items. All items are priced and include images and descriptions and it is easy to search through share and pin the items you are interested in or that inspire you.
I have incorporated Timeline for both my internship's brand pages. It has been a struggle, but once complete I am excited to see what they end up looking like once complete. I have enjoyed working on it and put a lot of research into it. I think it will be a strong tool for brands once they progress. I really like Covergirl's page. I referenced theirs, Starbucks, and McDonald's when working on my internship's page. It has also been fun to compile my brand's history - that will be a useful tool.
Free People – Free People’s Facebook page does a great job of branding themselves through social media. The Free People Facebook Page has a place where you can sign up for things, instagram pictures and even find out how to work for Free People. There are photos of the products and an overall great professional built social media sight that draws in plenty of customers. They update their page in a timely fashion as well giving people the option to become involved in the page. Free People has so many products on Pinterest as well. They definitely work great with social media and really understand the fashion sense in today’s world and what consumers look for.
I have recently changed to timeline and am just starting to get used to it. I was very hesitant at the beginning and was a bit furious when my facebook changed over. I have not yet become fully used to it but am trying to take advantage of all the new and improved features that have been created.
I am not a big fan of timeline, I actually one of the ones who hasn't switched over to timeline yet. I think Pinterst does a better job showing brand changes and movements. I really don't like how facebook always clogs up my news feed with company pages. But then I think that is their job, to make people aware of their brand. So all in all I dont like seeing them in my newsfeed, but I respect that its part of what they do as a company to increase brand awareness.
The photo is great! The Facebook timeline looks cool, but it's actually quite annoying because I can't see most of the items on the pages of my friends. The Pinterest layout isn't all that bad because it has been like that since I joined so I have nothing to compare it to. It gives me a way of browsing many pictures rather quickly and I can easily pick out the things I'd like to take a closer look at. On Facebook when scrolling down a person's timeline I have to wait for items to load more often than not and it keeps me from actually browsing a person's page. At this point I only look at another person's content when it relates to me.
Dow Chemical has done a surprisingly well job with the timeline update. Their cover photo is a simple illustration along with a listing of the various solutions Dow offers. I thought it was cool that Dow added their founding date (1897) along with a brief description to the timeline.
I don't know a lot about Pinterest, but Southwest Airlines appears to have a very good "page". All of their pins are somehow related to the brand or the overall flying experience.
Whenever facebook changes people go crazy and say they liked the old facebook better and that facebook is continutally getting worse. I could not disagree more. I have always liked the new changes that facebook has made. I feel like people don't like change and they don't want to have to re-learn how to use facebook. The Timeline has been out for quite a while now, and the thing I like most about it is the cover photo. It's like a second profile picture and in many cases can be an awesome picture that you can't use as a profile picture because in is elongated. Good job facebook on the changes you have made over the years.
