With more and more people "cutting the cord" and dumping cable/satellite TV for Internet video (e.g. Netflix, Hulu, Apple TV or Roku), it's no surprise that online video advertising is booming.

According to a recent report from FreeWheel, a company that manages web video ad placement, video ad views are growing even faster than online video plays:

Total video views

Lots of people pay attention to TV ads - especially during major events like the Super Bowl when new ads come out. I've found myself paying attention to online video ads more and more - especially on sites like YouTube that let me skip past ads that aren't interesting or relevant to me.

Do you pay close attention to web video ads? What are your favorite ones? What don't you like?

Video is a great way to. For example youtube. Many people want the visual effects of videos. Video advertising is truly helpful for business because it can spread like wildfire when it is as interesting as the iral videos that come out. Sometimes the videos can showcase what the product can do in real time. I think that video is really gaining popularity in online marketing. i realize that for many people watching video is more relaxed and comfortable, and keeps their attention better.

In my personal experience with web video ads, I rarely sit through an entire ad on youtube. Frequently they are irrelevant to me and I don't enjoy watching ad after ad if I'm jumping videos. I do understand why they are placed there and its good business, but I think it would be better if ads were way more targeted and relevant to what I'm doing. With my YouTube account they should be feeding me better ads that I would be way more interested in. If I could choose I would make it mainly movie previews and product ads. Web video ads will eventually become better, but as of now I really don't enjoy the majority of them.

Since i am going to be breaking into the online advertising career it is embarrassing to say that i rarely take the time to watch youtube ads and other online video ads. The reason being is because the ads always pop up when i am trying to be doing something else. When i go to youtube to watch a funny video I don't want to have to sit and watch a commercial for 30 minutes. With this being said there are a few video ads that I like. There is a new ad for a new type of jacket that came out that can be put into a tiny bag that you can carry. The video ads is run on Pandora and I took the time to stop and watch it because I was interested to see what the ad was going to be for. This is one of the only online video ads that I took the time to watch .

I agree with you I tend to pay attention to ads on sites like YouTube because i am able to skip the ones that don’t interest me. I don’t really have an opinion for big event like the super bowl because am usually with friends at a party not really paying much attention to the game or ads. However I do enjoy looking at the best ads for those events in the following days on the internet. Some of my favorite ads are the sports ads like the Nike, Gatorade and Adidas. I'm not a fan of the animated ads, they cost a lot of money and they are cheesy.

Student

I pay more attention to web video ads than any other type of ad. Usually, I have to watch them while watching my favorite shows or watching on YouTube. I am used to immediate gratification while watching online videos on Youtube, so I often sit through those commercials and watch them. Though I rarely follow the link to their sites, these video ads are memorable and I don't mind them!

Student

I certainly don't pay any attention to web video ads- I typically exit out of them as soon as I can. If i had a current favorite, I'd have to say I like the ones about upcoming movies (I usually can't exit out of these anyway). They're kind of relavent and encourage me to see the film (if i wasn't already). I really can't stand the constant pop ups- we all know it's killing my internet speed and interrupting me. Words and normal ads i can ignore or look past, but video ads literally put the sound and movement in  my face so that I can't ignore it one bit.

Student

I definitely don't pay close attention to web video ads. I find them quite annoying as I'm forced to watched something that I generally have no interest in or was looking for at that particular moment. I just want to watch the original video I was searching for or trying to watch. I'm definitely a big fan of the 'Skip Ad' button offered on most places, in particular like YouTube. Most of the time I'll skip the advertisement as soon as possible, unless I've never seen the advertisement before. If it interests me, I'll watch it. But if it doesn't, I'll click skip immediately because I'd rather not waste my time.

Student

On sites like Youtube and Hulu, advertisements are before almost any video that a developed account produces. I don't really pay a lot of attention to the web video ads on Youtube but if I do, they have to definitely catch my attention. Sometimes there will be ones about movies or new music coming out and I will pay attention to those but there is actually a really annoying one that always comes up about Poopari... or whatever it's called that drives me insane. I don't think it is funny in the least bit and I think it is gross. If you are going to put an ad on Youtube, make sure that it is tailored to the account you are watching. I watch a lot of makeup tutorials and product reviews so putting that commerical on over and over and over again when it has nothing to do with what I am watching is super annoying. Youtube see's that I am skipping the commerical all the time, you would think they could devise a plan that could keep track of that and not show it for the video. Google search engine is focusing more and more on the semantics of search engine optimization so that you can have your search results tailored to that specific user. Of course, Google cannot read your mind but I definitely think Youtube should incorporate more semantics into choosing where they should put their advertisements.

Student

As far as ads go, I do not pay attention to them. If an ad is humorous I generally pay more attention, but that is still limited. I rarely watch television with actual cable; it has been months since I have even turned my T.V. on.  So I never actually watch commercials that are on T.V. When it comes to web based commercials I do find myself watching those, simply because they are generally brief that I do not have time to go do something else before a show is back on.  However, I have noticed that ads are becoming longer. Having longer ads makes me less likely to watch the commercial.

Student

I am not a fan of online video ads. I most often find them on YouTube, before my videos or popping up in the middle. They are a distraction and simply a waste of time. True, you usually can skip the ad after five seconds, but that is not always the case. You may be forced to view a pointless ad and waste 30 seconds when all you wanted to do was watch a puppy dreaming or listen to your favorite song. I always find the ads to be annoying and repetitive. To improve this, I would suggest that ads are filtered and matched to videos with similar content. That way viewers may actually be able to get something useful out of the advertisement.

Student

I paid more attention on web video ads than TV advertisings. There are three things I like about online video advertising. First, most of the video advertising are very interesting and delicate, especially at the first 5 seconds. Even though sometimes I can click the button "skip", I choose to finish watching the advertising because it attracts me.  Secondly, viewers have the right to skip the video advertisings. In my opinion, if I was forced to finish wathcing a video ads, I would have bad impression on the brand of the ads, which is not good for the long-term relations between the business and me or their customers. Third, I can see the time needed for finishing watching the video, which enables me manage my time online well. However, if I watch an advertising on TV, I cannot evaluate how much time it will take. The only thing I can do is waiting or skipping. At last, I have a question for the online video ads. We have the option to skip some of the ads, but not all of them; what are the factors which decide this phenomenon.

Student

I think that while video ads can be annoying for the average consumer, I believe that they are extremely effective. Websites such as YouTube make the user watch ads between videos, which means they have no other choice but to watch the ad. While watching TV, consumers can just change the channel when a commercial comes on, allowing for less people to view an advertisement. By having web video ads, it allows for marketers to know that consumers will have to watch the video, rather than just changing the channel like a TV. One problem with web video ads is browser applications such as AdBlock. AdBlock makes a web browser skip web ads such as on YouTube, ultimately skipping the consumers impression on the advertisement. While there are some negatives to web ads, I believe that they are a large piece of the growing technological future. So much so, that they soon may be looked upon as a greater marketing opportunity than a TV ad.

Student

I think internet video ads are INSANELY effective, because for the most part, skipping is not an option. I end up waiting it out and actually watching the advertisment more often than not.

As far as the option to skip, I do end up using that option when the ad is boring or irrelevant. Requiring a certain amount of time to pass before this option is available, however, is very clever. It forces me to actually watch a portion of the advertisment. And if the ad is interesting and gets me hooked, I'm more likely to watch the entirety of it.

My favorite online video ads are ones that support a cause or relay a personal story thats relatable. Most times they are related to MADD, cancer research foundations, or the US army. Sometimes I get hooked into goofy ads such as Taco Bell's "viva young" superbowl advertisement.

Student

Personally, I skip any ad online possible. With the ads on youtube and pandora I find myself more annoyed than tv ads because I jusr expect it and with the internet its an inconvenience to have to watch or hear an ad that you have no interest in.  If the ad is unskippable sometimes I will even skip the whole video or song in itself.  The one thing I do like about the ads online is you can tailor the ads you see by saying not relevant to you or whatever that particular site might offer.

Student

I pay particular attention to ads on my computer compared to ads on my TV.  For some reason I do not find the ads on my computer as annoying as when I am watching TV.  The commercial breaks are so much longer when watching on an actual TV as opposed to the usualy 90 seconds for online shows.  The other difference I have experienced is when I am watching TV, I will change the channel or walk out of the room when there is a commerical, my attention is compleyely lost.  When I am watching TV on my computer I can sometimes choose which commercial I will watch.  In that case, I am engaged and want to see what it is about.  Even when I click to a new tab, I don't usually mute the commercial because then I don't know when my show is back on.  In this case, the commercial still has my attention, even if it is just what I am listening to.  For example,  I can sing the tune of the McBites commercial even though I would not recognize the commercial without the sound.

Student

I rarely ever pay attention to the web video ads. If i can skip an ad i do and if not i find myself doing other things while the ad plays. I do the same thing with ads on pandora, even though i cannot skip them i tend to just tune them out until the next song comes on. I think that there is potential to get people to pay attention to web video ads but they need to be catchier. I believe the companies that put them out know that you often have no choice to skip their ads so they don't put a lot of effort into making them. If they were mroe like TV ads where they have to get the consumers attention with appeal like humor or emotion, the ads viewed would increase even more.

Student

The only time I really pay attention to video ads is when I can't skip ahead.  However I find myself paying more attention to videos ads more because they seem a little more interesting than they used to.  Also something that I have noticed on a couple websites is that you can now choose your "ad experience." I think that is pretty neat because I am more inclined to pay attention to ad that I picked out when given the choice between to products.  I think it is interesting how they are having users interact with ads and I think that it's a good way to go.

Student

Sometimes I pay attention to them but dont always remeber what I just saw. The ones that grab my attention have to do it very quickly. Sometmes if it is really ineresting I may continue to watch it depite it being relevent to me. However, it helps if it tragets me. If they were shorter it would help as I lose my interst veru quockly. Althogh some ads work even when they take a longer amount of time. It depends on the creavtivity and the mood that I am in that day. So it sometimes help to repeat the same ads as I may not have felt like I had time to waste but perhaps on a differnt date I may change my mind be much more interested.

Student

In many times, people are searching in the internet for a specific reason. The unpredictable ad will annoy them in most situatition. Form my understanding, the exposure of the ad is not as important as its location to avoid raising hateness.

Student
Student

I pay attention to them, and rarely (though it does happen) watch the full ad before skipping it. Something better can be done to get the brand name out there, yet still get a good impression, all while making the content creator (and hoster) some money. I think if there were five-second or less ads, they would be very useful and would definitely get the message across without having to annoy the consumer too much. I liked the ads during the election season (though I think I could have done a lot better for my preferred candidate's campaign) and don't think that movie trailers are the right things to be putting as video ads.

Student

I do not pay close attention to web ads whatsoever. Often on youtube there is a button that offers to the option of not watching the ad and I always find myself clicking that button. I truly miss the youtube in which there were no web abs but I understand that through web ads google can make incredible profits. I hope that one day web ads will be entirely able to switch off as I do not want to see them if given the option not to.

Student

I personally do not pay close attention to web video ads. When I click on a video, I only intend on watching the content after the ads, so I usually skip the ad on youtube after 5 seconds or switch to a different tab on my window. 9 out of 10 times I ignore the video ad that plays before the video. I definitely pay closer attention to the ads on TV rather than the ones on the internet. I may watch the video ad if I cannot skip it because it is around 30 seconds. Overall, I mostly view video ads as an obstacle to the main video that I am trying to watch. I see it as an obstacle because my tasks on the internet are more direct and quick unlike when I watch TV where I've grown accustomed to TV shows and movies having 5-minute commercial breaks my whole life.

Student

I have cut the cord myself and cancelled my cable after two years of barely using the thing. Now I enjoy watching shows and movies on Hulu and HBOGo. While HBO doesn't have online ads, Hulu definitely does and I can tell the number is increasing. I've noticed that there used to be a 30 second commercial break maybe 3 times during my favorite show on Hulu, then 60 seconds, then 90 and now it's at least 120 every commercial break. I can appreciate advertisers taking advantage of this shift but as a consumer it's quite annoying. However, I do appreciate the Hulu gives you commercial options for content and even to watch an extended ad at the beginning of a show and then have no commercial breaks throughout. I can definitely tell you I look favorably on the shows that say "now presented to you with limited commercial breaks by such and such a company". Thank goodness for their ad dollars.

Student

I agree with you on everything that you said. I rarely watch cable on TV, I now also watch more of my shows on Hulu and Netflix. I have also noticed that the Hulu ads have increase significantly. Also on Hulu you used to be able to say if the ad was relevent to you or not, and if it was not relevent they would skip over the ad and for right back to your show. As an Advertising major I also can appreciate that Hulu is taking full advantage of this opportunity. To make consumers watch more of the commercials I think that they should always be an option to view an extended commercial at the beginging because the consumer would pay more attention to it and not get annoyed with the commercial interrupting their program.

Student

I wish online ads were a bit more required because I feel like people just forgot that advertisements pay for the content they are watching. Without ads there is no content and nothing to watch on a boring sunday afternoon. If we dont watch the advertisements or just get rid of them, then we will not support teh producers and actors in the films or television shows.

Student

I am more annoyed with web video ads than I am with TV ads. Because TV commercial breaks last longer and show more than one ad at a time, I have trained myself to use that time to get up and grab something I need, make conversation, or do laundry. Web video ads are too short to justify that type of break, but just long enough to disrupt the flow of my video-watching. Earlier in this blog, I saw that one student mentioned he uses software to block such ads. I would consider using that software. Once in awhile a web video ad actually pertains to my interests, but more often than not, I feel they are reaching the wrong demographic/psychographic.

Student

When I find a web video ad that is interesting to me I do pay attention to it because I want to know what it is about. Especially when they advertise products or services that I am interested in such as phone companies, insurance companys, I love the Dorito ads and of course fast food ads. I also like watching web video ads that are humorous and if I like them alot I will play them a few times. However, when I see boring ads I skip through them or mute them and do something else while they are playing. Whenever I miss an advertisement that I thought was interesting on TV I find it on YouTube and watch it.

Student

When it comes to paid viewing sites like Netflix, I would never want to see ads. That's the reason I pay for the service. However on youtube, I sometimes find myself watching full ads even after I'm allowed to skip past them to the actual video. It's generally only for movie trailers or TV show trailers, but it still happens. I wish youtube targeted their ads a bit more so that they were relevant to the actual videos. It's a bit strange seeing an ad completely irrelevant to your chosen video.

Student

I personally like watching ads on TV or internet. Especially, I find it sometimes entertaining to see some of the work that people have done. However, it is sometimes annoying to see some ads that has a poor quality. I like watching Superbowl ads since the companies really pay attention to making the commercials, and there are number of quality works that people could enjoy. Web video ads are just like TV ads, there are number of quality works that makes me happy and some that don't.

Student

At this point, I am used to web video ads, but I think I pay less attention to them than TV ads, because I'll just open another tab in my browser and do something else while I wait for the ad to finish. Because I don't really pay attention, I can't think of a favorite web video ad. Everytime I watch an ad I click on the "Not interested" button, in hopes that they'll run out of ads (yes, I know that will never happen). I hate when Hulu shows almost 2 minutes of ads multiple times during a 40-minute show. At least YouTube generally lets you skip the ad after 5 seconds.

Student

Why Wouldn't We Play It Again, Sam?

Just Google it! 546 million results and three ads right now for vendors -- Openx, Viddler and Brightroll -- will, able and Adword-ready to deliver consulting, software or "your revenue command center" to serve ads across multiple formats. Where there's smoke like this, there must be fire. Now, let's be frank. Who really has the time to watch ads -- print, video, email or otherwise -- in a 24-7 life? And if we wanted to watch ads, we wouldn't be investing in so much hardware and software to avoid them, no? I know of no one in this household who sets aside time to watch online video ads.

But show us a romcom, an action adventure, Amy Adams, George Clooney, a soap opera, comedy or how to bake Julie Child's french bread, then we're hooked. Videos masquerading as "content" (did I say that?????) like movies, or adventures, or baby pictures of the adorable nephews, even the furry, sleeping kittens, will wake us up to the prospects. Students who have posted in this space say that they watched those Superbowl ads, and odd to think about it, so did my husband. Could it be a "man" thing? Says he: "I'm a child of the 60s. There were some great ads then that were terrific films. The Superbowl is one of the last avenues that allows advertising to experiment with that kind of creativity." That must be it.

And then there's the money.... Promotional invitation from Viddler

Why, just two hours ago -- okay, three hours ago -- the venerated Mashable tells us that "YouTube App Update Suggests Paid Channels Are on the Way.."

And the Mashable Velocity graph showed a rise, while I watched, from 344 shares to 568, a sharply rising path many investors would like to see for their equities.

For now, there's news that there's at least 12 video websites that are more popular than YouTube and the top 15 video websites are pulling eyeballs from hundreds of millions of viewers.

Where there are people, there are buyers and where there are buyers, goodness knows what they'll buy. After all, wouldn't you pay to see those adorable nephews or a few flashes of Jessica Chastain selling dishsoap? After all, millions of barely computer-literate senior citizens have learned to pay for email to see the grandkids. Or the husband to ooooh and aaaaah over that Apple ad introducing the Macintosh or the Chrysler - Detroit ad from two years ago.

I am not a big fan of web ads and i don't really pay attention to it. I feel annoyed more easily by video ads than TV ads. Video ads not only make me have to wait for the videos to load but also the ads to finish.  So, I installed a certain program to skip web video ads. I think that even though web video ads are getting more popular gradually, most people still dont like it.

Student

During web video ads I usually find myself trying to get things done that I would normally have more time to do during tv commercials, such as basic household chores.  I sometimes have to rewind the video because the ad was so short.  I'm not saying they should be longer but maybe a button to push when you are ready to keep watching.  People only pay attention to ads that are relevent to their lives.  Maybe there should be an option to choose between ads that people would like to view.

Student

I believe that video ads are for very rare cases like for a specific marketing program. I hate a lot of things about the video ads because it takes time and space online and some of them are very annoying. I think companies use them in a different context that should be using. I’m a huge fan of super bowl ads which are very entertaining and which everyone loves them. I like ads for certain brand like Jordan because he is world renown for the jumpman.

Student

Some video ads are really annoying but some are not. I know that during Super Bowl, audiences get a great chance to appreciate some new ads and I do believe that some ads come into positive effect. Many of my friends discuss about their opinions towards new ads on Facebook on the day of Super Bowl and they even list their top three favorite ones. It is amazing to tell that sometimes solely broadcasting a video ad is less effective and efficient than broadcasting the video ad before ,during or after a football game. In China, if you intend to watch some complimentary online video, you should first finishing viewing the video ads. What if you are uncomfortable with these ads? You cannot skip them unless you pay for a monthly fees. Youtube at least give you like five seconds to view the beginning of some ads and then you have the choice to skip or not. To be honest, almost 90% audiences will skip the ads after five seconds undoubtedly. So broadcasting a video ads on Youtube, I do not think that it will be a wise decision. Even you may think Youtube gets a very high click-to-view, still audiences barely remember these video ads. The only possibility is that the content of first five seconds are catchy and impressive. I do not have a favorite one but I do dislike some video ads. The problems for them are talking too much. I enjoy watching video ads which show more body language to persuade audiences. It is vivid and impressive. Thank you.

Student

I think video ads are for mobile advertising are going to be very important. When you can watch a creative video on the go is when I like the video ads. When talking about the super bowl ads. Some advertising schemes had their superbowl ad "leaked" before the actuall superbowl. This created tons of attention to the business and gave people something to look for. My favorite video ads are nike ads. The creativity is key to the video because it keeps me interested and motivates me to go searching for them.

Student

I don't pay much attention to web video ads. I usually tune them out when they're shown. When I watch a video online, I want to get straight to the video. Not wait one minute for the video to load and show ads that I find unnecessary.

Student

To be completely honest I have rarely, if ever, paid any attention to video ads. Whether on Youtube, or any other social media I usually hit the "Skip Ad" button as soon as it lights up the corner of my screen. Unlike the Television I have the option to skip the ad most if not all of the time and choose to do so. Ads are effective when done in a way that isnt invasive to the viewer. Making me wait to watch a video or in between commercial breaks is invasive to my time and my patience and I prefer not to view them if given the choice.

Student

I feel I do not mind video ads, mainly because I am an advertising major who understands the business, people need to advertise in order to make money (a necessary evil).  In addition to that, there is enough customization to adhere personally to customers that, more often than not, will be relevant to the person listening.  I find that these video ads can be much more informative than generalized print or television ads simply due to relevance.

Student

I don't mind video ads at all and I understand that a company needs a way to advertise. I think there is usually too many ads during one online program though, I think that instead of 4-5 breaks for ads there should only be 2-3. Although, I think that video ads should be completely cut from YouTube becasue the video I am trying to watch is usually only about 3x longer than the ad before it, which can be annoying. But for tv shows, I completely understand the online ads and I do not mind them at all.

Student

Web video ads can definitely be annoying, especially when they are irrelevant to the person viewing them. Hulu has really taken the lead, in my opinion, by giving viewers the opportunity to say whether or not the ad being displayed is relevant to them and if not they have an opportunity to swap ads. Giving users this option can help raise more interest because viewers of the content are more apt to be interested in the ads they are being exposed to. When these ads first started popping up I think they were mostly insurance or something that I would have no interest in paying attention to. I have noticed more recently that movie trailers have been on the rise. If I have to watch an ad before viewing my content a movie trailer is one that really doesn’t bother me. I have also noticed that Pandora ads have become more localized. I just heard one the other day that was for a company in East Lansing. I think that having ads that cater to the interests of the audience is a great idea. No one really wants to watch an ad, but if it is something that interests the viewer it has a much more positive impact than those that are irrelevant.

Student

I find myself not really paying attention to ads weather it be on TV or on the internet. As an advertising student I know that I should start looking at them but for me its about quality. For every 1 hilarious/well put together ad there are about 5 or so not so good ads. It's something in my eyes that really draws me to the advertising industry, I think that every ad you put out there (with all the money being dished out) should be your best quality.

Student

I actually don't even have a tv anymore. Any shows I watch, I watch online. But as far as online video ads go, they drive me nuts. I cannot stand it. A also feel like they are much louder than the video you are about to play so I always am caught offguard by some very obnoxious voice, sound or song. I think it is a little too invasive when you are forced to watch an ad before playing a youtube video.

Student

Like most people I am really not a fan of web video ads. When a commerical comes on TV tend to change the channel or flipped back and forth during commerical breaks. However, we are usually not given that "skip" option online, so I guess you could say I am somewhat forced to may attention. The worst web video ads are the ones that seems to be 10x louder than the video you are actually trying to watch.

Student

I don't really pay attention to web video ads.  The only time I really watch them is if they come on during one of the breaks if I am watching a show online.  If this is the case I normally only watch the ad once because the same ad will play during every break in the show.  If I am able to skip over the ad I always do.  I'm not on that website to view the ads, I'm on the site to watch one of my shows that I missed on tv.  I also don't like ad interruptions if I am listening to Pandora.  Again, I'm not listening to Pandora for the advertisments, I am there to listen to the music that Pandora provides.  I find most ads to be annoying and unhelpful.

Student

When I'm listening to pandora or watching a tv show online, I hate video ads and they really annoy me. I don't think anybody really like to be interrupted between songs or every 5 or so minutes while trying to watch a tv show online. When i'm about to watch a youtube video it doesn't bother me as much since the ad isn't interrupting me. I'm more likely to listen to or watch these ads before the video since i'm just waiting for the video to start. It's still annoying to have to wait to watch the video, but it's less annoying than being interrupted.

Student

I know that when I am listening to music online or watching TV shows online I am less likely to pay attention to commercials because I can go on a different site and wait for the commercial to be over. When I am watching TV, I generally am not doing too many other things so I am more focused on whats playing in front of me. Also, I recently started using Spotify as opposed to Pandora or iTunes because it is free, and there are some songs that I just want to listen to once or preview and not buy on iTunes. However, one thing that bothers about Spotify is that they advertise themselves as advertisment free--but, they do self advertising, which is also annoying. Personally, I don't find TV ads as offensive as online ads, probably because I am so used to them. For online, I am just wanting to listen to a song or watch a short clip, so a 30 second ad for a 3 minute video is very annoying.

Student

I do like internet advertisements more just because of the fact that you are able to pick and choose which ones you would like to view. I think that this process makes the ads more effective than ones which people are almost forced to watch on television. Most of the time people end up changing the channel anyway when they do not want to view an ad. I think that in the future of television advertising people will be able to skip an ad much similiar to how youtube allows you two. I think that there will be a database of ads over the course of the 3-4 minute commercial break. If an ad is skipped another one shows up until the program syndictes back.

Student

I am actually a fan of online video ads. Most of them allow you to skip past them after 5 seconds, which is a very small price to pay for basically free entertainment. Some sites are pretty creative with their ads, like allowing you to watch all the ads before the show so you aren’t interrupted every 8 minutes. I’ve noticed that some ads are even interactive now, so that while you’re watching the commercial you can run your mouse over certain parts of the ad and information will pop up, or some brands sponsor trivia and that serves as advertising. I think these ads are more memorable and they beat the hell out of paying a cable bill.
