Blogging is a personal tool used to express an individual's interests and feelings on a particular topic. "Blog" can often be seen as a negative term especially by writing professionals. Journalists often see blogs as a joke due to the lack of research and interviews to validate the information posted in them. What these professionals don’t realize is that most people who write blogs are doing it for a hobby and as something they enjoy to do and do not always see it in a totally professional light.

I have never really known very much about blogging, so this weeks reading was really informative. I had no idea that a blog could give you so many opportunities and open doors. David Meerman Scott had the opportunity to write “The New Rules of Marketing and PR” because he included a link on his blog to an e-book he wrote (pg.57).

Being relatively new to the blogging world, I was a little nervous to promote my blog. I wasn’t sure how to go about it, and be effective so that people would actually read and follow my blog. To start out, I looked at the New Media Resources. The article by Darren Rowse was helpful in coming up with ideas on how to promote my blog.

There’s a lyric from the Kansas track “Dust in the Wind” that goes, “just a drop of water in an endless sea.” I think the song is about morality, but the band might also be singing about the number of blogs online.

And yet, I have made some progress distinguishing my blog by following D.M. Scott’s advice in chapter 17, “Blogging to Reach Your Buyers.”

I think the most valuable lessons I took from the readings this week were the "10 Key Points to Remember in an Effective Blog Writing Checklist" (2-10, Ten Key Points) and "What to Blog About" (2-13, What to Blog About). I've tried to blog millions of times.

Thankfully, I have a much better idea of blogs and blogging after reading this week’s assigned chapters.

Cole/Mehraban reviewed the basics in “The Ins and Outs of Blogging,” explaining that people set up blogs because they want to have a public conversation on a particular topic.

When I first heard that we had to start a blog, my initial reaction was a little panicked. I had no idea what I could write about. How could I blog about something that people would actually want to read? After doing some research, I came across this article for beginner bloggers.
