i promoted my blog! oh, yes, I did!

There’s a lyric from the Kansas track “Dust in the Wind” that goes, “just a drop of water in an endless sea.” I think the song is about morality, but the band might also be singing about the number of blogs online.

And yet, I have made some progress distinguishing my blog by following D.M. Scott’s advice in chapter 17, “Blogging to Reach Your Buyers.”
His suggestions include:

Blog Promotion: Without It, What's the Point?

It’s not enough to just have a blog. Promotion is the key. Without promotion, it’s hard to get more people aware of the blog. Without people reading it, it’s just words, and pretty much a waste of time. I used the website Twitterfeed to link my blog to my Twitter and the Facebook Page for my blog.

How do you get your content?

It can be argued that these days people are too busy to sit and read posts and they tend to skim the content more often that not. That is one of of the reasons Ross Johnson suggested in hist rules for writing blog posts to use subheads, and quick paragraphs, so people can skim and get the information quickly.

How do you read blog posts? Social Marketing Insider argues that skimming content is the way to go. What do you think?

Blogging vs. Writing a Diary: It Comes Down to Strategy

I think the most valuable lessons I took from the readings this week were the "10 Key Points to Remember in an Effective Blog Writing Checklist" (2-10, Ten Key Points) and "What to Blog About" (2-13, What to Blog About). I've tried to blog millions of times.

This blog's for you!

Thankfully, I have a much better idea of blogs and blogging after reading this week’s assigned chapters.

Cole/Mehraban reviewed the basics in “The Ins and Outs of Blogging,” explaining that people set up blogs because they want to have a public conversation on a particular topic.

Blogging for Beginners: What I've Learned

When I first heard that we had to start a blog, my initial reaction was a little panicked. I had no idea what I could write about. How could I blog about something that people would actually want to read? After doing some research, I came across this article for beginner bloggers. This article by Darren Rowse provided me with help on how to create my blog.

6 Ways to Optimize Your Blog for Search Engines

During my readings for the week, I was especially attracted to "Blogging Resource 2-20: 6 Ways to Optimize Your Blog for Search Engines" on page 64 of The New Media Driver's License Resource Guide. Author Jim Ludico offers six tips for optimizing your blog posts for search engines.

Optimizing pre-professional blog The High-Heeled Life

I chose five words to try to optimize my new posts and future posts around:

  • Pre-professionals
  • professional development
  • network
  • public relations
  • prssa

I then went to blogs that I know include my target audience - because I am my target audience and I follow these blogs:

Optimizing my Blog content for "Boho Glam"

Through working on my blog, “Boho Glam”, for the past few weeks, I have learned that keeping up with a blog is not as easy as it looks. Between studying for exams, attending class and going to work, it is difficult to find time to write new blog posts. Therefore, it makes it more difficult to build more traffic to my blog when I do not have enough time to keep writing new blog entries. However, after a long week of exams, I made the time to write a new blog post about incorporating metallics into your wardrobe.
