It’s ironic, because while updating my blog the last couple of weeks, I feel like I’ve been using the same 5-10 words in most of my posts. Never did I think there was significance to it, until I started this lesson on Search Engine Optimization (SEO).

Integrating and Promoting Blogs

In promoting my blog, I started by creating a Facebook page and a Google+ page for my blog, using the same title as my blog. I then linked the pages to my blog, and filled out their profiles a bit. For a profile picture, I searched through my blog and found an amusing one of a pickle I had ordered from Jimmy John’s that had a face drawn on.

STEP 1 : I used tumblr as my blog platform so it is really easy to feed my blog into twitter. Just go to Setting--add facebook and twitter account--and its down.

Creating a Following

In order to promote my blog (besides sharing with my proud parents…) I did a number of things:

  • First, I added gadgets to connect it to some of my profiles and allow people to easily share. I have “Follow Me on Twitter” and “Tweet” buttons and Facebook “Like” and “Share” buttons for my overall blog. I also added coding that will add a “Like” button to the end of all of my posts in addition to the automatic share buttons that the Blogger Platform makes available for each post.

I’ve been looking to start a more themed and structured blog for quite some time, so I was excited to find out that creating a blog was this week’s homework assignment. It gave me the push I needed to actually create one. I struggled for a while debating on a platform and a theme. Since I am already familiar with Tumblr, I decided to stick with that platform. I am really passionate about Michigan State and I love to talk about my school to anyone who will listen.

I have a love/hate relationship with blogs: mostly, I love to hate blogs. I read them and then make snide comments about them in my head, which is why I wasn't exactly thrilled to start one of my own. Blogs come off as overly self-indulgent. Oh well, I already have a facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Goggle+, etc, why not fully expand my digital portfolio to include a tumblr and a blog.
